■eyecity eco project
The 'eyecity eco project' is a recycling activity targeting empty cases of recyclable disposable contact lenses. In addition to eyecity stores nationwide, special boxes are set up at about 8,850 locations nationwide, including cooperating municipalities, companies, and schools. Started in 2010 as the industry's first such initiative, the project celebrates its 16th year, aiming for three social contributions: 1. Environmental conservation through resource recovery of empty cases, 2. Support for the independence and employment of people with disabilities, and 3. Donations to the Japan Eye Bank Association.
After collection, regardless of the store or manufacturer, they are sold to recycling manufacturers. The compensation is donated to the Japan Eye Bank Association to help those who wish to regain their sight. However, approximately 4,000 tons are still disposed of as garbage annually. Therefore, we will continue our efforts to expand the circle of social contribution activities with the cooperation of more people.
■Current Number of Participating Organizations (As of March 2026)
- Schools: 3,340 (including elementary, junior high, high schools, universities, and vocational schools)
- Companies: 1,236 companies, 4,648 locations (including offices and branches)
- Municipalities: 482 locations (including public facilities)
We are continuously recruiting organizations to cooperate with our collection activities.
■Collection Volume and Donation Amount (As of March 2026)
- Cumulative 864.58 t (equivalent to about 864 million empty contact lens cases)
- Contributed to the reduction of a cumulative 2386.23 t-CO2 (equivalent to 142.9 Tokyo Domes)
