OMO5 Okinawa Naha (Omo) by Hoshino Resorts, a "city-centric" hotel for enjoying the lesser-known side of Naha, will offer "Shurijo Kariyushi Stay" from September 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, to uniquely celebrate the historic milestone of the Shurijo Castle Main Hall reconstruction. "Kariyushi" means "auspicious occasion" or "good luck" in the Okinawan dialect. The "Shurijo Castle Lecture," held since the hotel's opening in 2021, has evolved into the "Shurijo Ranger," who passionately discusses Shurijo Castle. They will introduce the reconstruction progress and the unique aspects of life, food, clothing, music, and scents cultivated within Shurijo Castle from the Ryukyu Kingdom era in an enjoyable way. In the evening, following the Ryukyu Kingdom's hospitality culture of "Shichien" (seven banquets), guests can sing and dance to the sanshin, enjoy complimentary awamori and Ryukyuan sweets, and purchase Shurijo Castle Ranger-selected souvenirs. This stay offers a complete Shurijo Castle experience, going beyond just accommodation, to celebrate the historic completion of the Shurijo Castle Main Hall.
Background
Shurijo Castle, where many buildings including the Main Hall were lost in a fire in 2019, will hold its reconstruction completion ceremony for the Main Hall on November 22, 2026, and will be open to the public from November 23. OMO5 Okinawa Naha has been welcoming guests with reconstruction Shisa lions adorned with the red roof tiles of the burnt Shurijo Castle, and has been creating opportunities for guests to visit Shurijo Castle even during its reconstruction through its unique "Shurijo Castle Lecture" activity. Having watched and communicated the reconstruction process, we want to share this memorable moment with our guests, which led to the creation of this program. Reflecting on the journey so far, we will celebrate the reconstruction of the Shurijo Castle Main Hall along with the city of Naha.
