KAI Akiu's lobby is an elegant space facing a valley.
Hoshino Resorts' hot spring ryokan, KAI Akiu, will renovate its lobby space and launch "Yoizuki Salon" on July 1, 2026, for guests to elegantly enjoy their time after dinner. This initiative is inspired by the ancient custom of "Tsukimachi" (moon waiting), where people of the past would await the rising moon while playing music. With a playful spirit of "getting drunk" on fine sake during the "Yo" (evening) hours, we offer live performances of Japanese and Western instruments, fine sake from Miyagi, and snacks made from local specialty products. We present a new way to spend your evenings at a hot spring inn.
Feature 1: The sound of Japanese and Western instruments, inspired by the ancient "Tsukimachi," to enjoy the tranquility of Akiu.
In ancient Japan, there was a custom called "Tsukimachi," where people enjoyed music while waiting for the moon to rise. Date Masamune, a prominent historical figure, also left behind many tanka poems about the moon. Inspired by this culture, the lobby space will feature the sounds of Japanese and Western instruments played by local musicians, creating a pleasant background that gently envelops the evening hours. Guests can simply gaze at the deep valley beauty and twilight outside the spacious windows, or chat over a glass of fine sake. Accompanied by melodies that gently embrace the space, you can luxuriously enjoy your post-dinner time in your own style.
Live performances will be held at Yoizuki Salon from 9 PM after dinner. A variety of instruments will be performed daily, including Japanese instruments such as the shinobue, shamisen, koto, and shakuhachi, as well as Western instruments such as the cello, flute, guitar, and keyboard.
Feature 2: Freely enjoy Miyagi's fine sake.
The lobby floor offers a selection of fine sake and juices perfect for a tipsy mood, including Nikka Whisky's Apple Wine, Akiu Winery's red and orange wines, and rare grape juice. A sip nurtured in pure nature will gently permeate your body after dinner, deepening your sense of fulfillment for the night. Relaxing on the comfortable sofas in the lobby, you'll find yourself in an "immersive" space enveloped by the twilight of the Natori River and the music. With your favorite drink in hand, you can spend a relaxed and elegant time waiting for the moon, surrendering to the flow of time.
[Drink examples *may vary depending on the season]*
Nikka Whisky Apple Wine
Akiu Winery Red Wine (River Winds Rouge), Orange Wine (Neo Trail Orange)
Tadokoro Foods Co., Ltd. Wata-ri Grape (Red)
Drinks placed on the first floor of the lobby are free-flow as a nightcap.
Feature 3: A "Tsukimachi Seat" is prepared in the balcony area, offering a comfortable view of the lobby's ambiance.
The balcony area, located on the upper floor of the lobby, offers a panoramic view overlooking the entire space. Here, a special "Tsukimachi Seat" is prepared. It is a private space where the pleasant melodies from downstairs and the gentle presence of people can be comfortably felt. Exclusively for guests of this seat, a "Yoi no Banshaku Set" (Evening Drinking Set) is available. Enjoy a glass of champagne with canapés of oysters marinated in oil served on Sendai-fu (a type of fried wheat gluten), sasakama-bo (bamboo-leaf-shaped fish cake) bruschetta, and beef tongue prosciutto wrapped with seasonal fruits, as you reflect on the day's memories. You can spend time indulging in your own luxurious afterglow.
The Tsukimachi Seat, limited to 3 groups, includes champagne, Sendai-fu, sasakama-bo, and beef tongue prosciutto, served as the Yoi no Banshaku Set.
