Hoshino Resorts, which operates facilities both domestically and internationally with a focus on its six brands – HOSHINOYA, KAI, RISONARE, OMO, BEB, and LUCY – under the theme of "Making Travel Fun," announces the opening of a new facility in 2028 in Gora Onsen, Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture.
Image of the scenery around Lake Ashi, Hakone
Hakone, one of Japan's premier hot spring resorts, is a hot spring destination that boasts immense popularity both domestically and internationally, blending rich nature, history, and diverse culture. Hoshino Resorts has previously operated KAI Hakone and KAI Sengokuhara in this area, proposing stays that leverage the charm of each region. The new facility will be located in Gora, nestled at the foot of Mt. Kamiyama and Mt. Sounzan, amidst the complex terrain created by the volcanic activity of Mt. Hakone. This facility stands on a sloping site that embraces the surrounding forest and streams, offering a prime vantage point with views extending towards the outer rim mountains. To allow for private stays in Gora, a secluded area of Hakone away from the hustle and bustle, we are proceeding with the construction of a new facility on a scenic site overlooking the Hakone mountain range. Furthermore, this facility will adopt the form of Hakone Gora's first newly built condominium hotel by Hoshino Resorts, proposing a new option that meets the diverse needs of modern stays. With only 23 guest rooms, it offers a relaxing space dedicated to privacy.
Location: Hakone Gora
Gora has been developed as a high-class villa area with hot springs since the Meiji era and was deeply loved by connoisseurs and sophisticated individuals. For this reason, it has a history of developing as an area with a cultural flair, somewhat different from typical villa areas. Hakone Gora is also said to have a potential caldera beneath the ground, making it a hot spring area where one can feel the energy of the earth. Moreover, it is only about a 70-minute drive from the city center, offering a comfortable distance that allows for spontaneous visits. This area, which brings majestic natural spots and famous landmarks within easy reach, coexists with the joy of visiting and the luxury of staying. This facility is located in the Gora area and aims to realize an ideal stay, using the beautiful outer rim mountain range as borrowed scenery.
