Cast Comments (Re-posted)
Takashi Kaga (Role of Georges / Double Cast)
I first encountered a gay role in 1986 with "Torch Song Trilogy," and then again in 2008 with "La Cage aux Folles." As the revival has continued and I myself have aged, I want to portray a mature Georges with care, so as not to be told that the past was better. Especially now, in an era called genderless, I hope to deliver a stage that is funny, warm, and moving. Please come to the theater.
Masachika Ichimura (Role of Albin (Zaza) / Double Cast)
I will stand on stage, living, loving, and performing in this moment. This is not the end yet! I want to show you a Zaza that can only be expressed at my current age. I can't wait to see you all ♡ Please accept this overflowing love!
Takamasa Sato (Role of Georges / Double Cast)
This work has been loved for a long time since its premiere in 1985. I was surprised to be offered the role of Georges, never imagining it would happen, but to respond to the passionate feelings of everyone who has supported it and to your many cheers, I want to nurture the love with Kanji Ishimaru, with whom I will be working this time, and deliver it to you all ♪ I look forward to seeing you at the theater! Please come and see it!
Kanji Ishimaru (Role of Albin (Zaza) / Double Cast)
This has been my favorite musical since the first time I encountered it. Among "backstage" works that depict people on stage, this one especially stands out. The dazzling aura that performers display the moment they stand before the audience and are bathed in light. And their human, unvarnished selves when they return to everyday life. I fell in love with that contrast and was instantly captivated. Now, I will be on the side of showing it. I hope to learn each and every aspect of the acting polished by the great seniors Takashi Kaga and Masachika Ichimura in the rehearsal room. Then, I must forge my own style with Takamasa Sato. It's all about the challenge!
Yoshitaka Utsumi (Role of Jean-Michel / Double Cast, appearing in Kaga & Ichimura performances)
I am very happy to be able to play Jean-Michel again after four years. This is a historic work that has been revived many times, but I feel there is a message that can be delivered especially in this era. I want to approach this work anew, cherish the emotions that arise at each moment, and build the character from scratch.
Kento Yamada (Role of Jean-Michel / Double Cast, appearing in Sato & Ishimaru performances)
I am Kento Yamada, appearing as Jean-Michel in "La Cage aux Folles"! Under the guidance of such wonderful cast members, I want to absorb all the new discoveries, techniques, and demeanors! I can't stop feeling excited from now until it begins. At the same time, I am happy and feel a sense of responsibility to be involved in such a historic work. I will do my best to add even a little color to this production!
Hana Jun (Role of Anne)
This work has been revived and loved many times. It teaches us the importance of people connecting strongly and the meaning of love. I believe this is why it continues to captivate people's hearts in any era. I am truly happy and honored to be able to appear in such a work as Anne. I am incredibly excited to see what kind of time we will weave together with everyone I will meet anew!! I will approach it with a fresh perspective!!
Tatsuki Kō (Role of Jacqueline)
I recall that around the premiere in 1985, the plot and setting of the work might not have been easily accepted by society. However, because "La Cage aux Folles" is filled with wonderful human love, it has captured the hearts of the audience and continues to be loved as a masterpiece. I have been participating since 2008, and this will be my sixth time. I feel once again how truly fortunate I am to be able to participate in a work I love for so long. With many new participants this time, I expect the production to be even more upgraded.
Kiyotaka Imai (Role of Dindon)
This work makes everyone who sees it feel happy! I am truly delighted to be able to appear again! With new Georges and Zazas joining this time, and the colorful Cagelles dancers also said to be getting younger! I am truly happy to be able to show you all an upgraded world of "La Cage"! Of course, don't miss the mature performances of the seasoned couple!! Please look forward to it.
Kumiko Mori (Role of Madame Dindon)
The premiere was in February 1985. I was given a major role and have played the part of Marie Dandon since the premiere. It is thanks to all of you that I have been able to play the same role for 41 years. I appear from the second act, but I used to participate in the background chorus from the beginning of the first act. Even if they tell me I don't have to, I love it. I love "La Cage" so much that I even made my own costume. I believe Shigeki Majima is watching from heaven for the 2026 "La Cage".
Story
In times like these, it's the bonds between people, hand in hand.
Georges (Takashi Kaga, Takamasa Sato), the owner of the gay club "La Cage aux Folles" in Saint-Tropez, South of France, and its star performer, "Zaza" aka Albin (Masachika Ichimura, Kanji Ishimaru), have been living together as a de facto couple for 20 years. Albin has been feeling down lately, often being late for his show. Georges tries to appease Albin, who complains – in other words, they are in a rut. Georges has a beloved son, Jean-Michel (Yoshitaka Utsumi, Kento Yamada), born from a "mistake" 24 years ago, whom Albin raised with great care as a mother figure. One day, Jean-Michel suddenly declares he is getting married. His fiancée is Anne, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dindon (Kiyotaka Imai & Kumiko Mori), a politician who advocates for strict crackdowns on gay clubs. A crisis erupts when the family decides to visit for introductions! Jean-Michel pleads with Georges to pretend to be a "normal family" for just one night, and even asks him to invite his biological mother, whom he hasn't seen in a long time. Upon hearing this, Albin is deeply hurt, but after Georges' persuasion, he agrees to Jean-Michel's request and undergoes training for "cross-dressing" to pose as an uncle. However, the situation becomes even more complicated when the biological mother suddenly cannot come! Albin finally decides to dress as a woman and meet the Dindon family as the mother. The dinner party at Jacqueline's (Tatsuki Kō) familiar establishment was supposed to end in a great success, but...
