TOPPAN Holdings Establishes New Company in the U.S. for Personalized Cancer Medicine

TOPPAN Holdings Inc. (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hideharu Maro; hereinafter referred to as TOPPAN Holdings) established a new company, "TOPPAN Global Medical Healthcare Inc.," in Houston, Texas, USA, in March 2026 to promote its personalized cancer medicine and drug discovery support businesses.

Leveraging its proprietary 3D cell culture technology, "invivoid®" (pronounced in-vi-void), TOPPAN Holdings will accelerate research and development from its new U.S. base with the aim of socially implementing personalized cancer medicine. The new company is located within the Texas Medical Center (TMC), one of the world's largest medical hubs, bringing together top-tier cancer research facilities, and will promote collaboration with local medical institutions and pharmaceutical companies.

Background of New Company Establishment

Currently, the field of cancer treatment is seeing a globally increasing need for "personalized medicine," which involves selecting the optimal treatment methods and drugs for each individual patient. In this context, TOPPAN Holdings entered into a strategic partnership with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, Texas, USA; hereinafter referred to as UT MD Anderson) in July 2025, and has been jointly developing clinical tools to evaluate treatment efficacy using patient-derived samples.

The newly established company will serve as a core base for directly engaging with local medical institutions and pharmaceutical companies in the U.S., the world's largest medical market, to promote the expansion of personalized cancer treatment and drug discovery support businesses.

Objectives of New Company Establishment

・Accelerating Clinical Validation

Deepen joint research with UT MD Anderson Cancer Center to accelerate clinical validation studies across multiple cancer types, aiming to obtain accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).

・Expanding Drug Discovery Support Business

Provide major U.S. pharmaceutical companies with an efficient drug screening environment using "invivoid®," contributing to the acceleration and advancement of new drug development.

・Building a Global Network

Utilize Houston, a hub for medical innovation, as a base to incorporate cutting-edge knowledge, talent, and research institutions, thereby promoting global business development.

About "invivoid®"

Professor Noriya Matsuzaki of the Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, and TOPPAN Holdings established a joint research laboratory for Advanced Cell Control Chemistry (TOPPAN) at the Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, in April 2017, to promote basic research contributing to 3D cell culture technology using proprietary biomaterials. "invivoid®" can easily create artificial tissues that closely mimic living organisms, and is expected to be used in a wide range of applications, including personalized cancer medicine, drug discovery research (including efficacy and toxicity testing), regenerative medicine, and cultured food.
