Panasonic Corporation (hereinafter Panasonic) will launch the "Solaire" electric clothes dryer, which features an outdoor venting system that exhausts high-temperature, high-humidity air generated during drying through a duct to the outside, in early November 2026 (Note 1).
The market for clothes dryers, including drum-type washer-dryers that emphasize drying functions, continues to expand, driven by the increasing need for time-saving and efficiency due to the rise in dual-income households and diversification of lifestyles, as well as the convenience of drying laundry regardless of the weather. Furthermore, in line with the ZEH (Net Zero Energy House) promotion targets set by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the installation of self-generation equipment such as solar power generation is progressing, particularly in newly built detached houses. In all-electric homes, the demand for high-efficiency electric appliances as alternatives to fossil fuel-powered equipment is also increasing. Against this backdrop, demand for electric clothes dryers is expected to grow in the future, especially in newly built detached houses.
Conventional electric clothes dryers have a limited heating capacity due to their 100V power supply, and tend to take a long time to dry because they cool the evaporated moisture from clothes, turn it into water, and drain it. The "Solaire" to be launched this time enhances drying performance by adopting an outdoor venting system and a 200V power supply, reducing drying time by approximately 45% compared to conventional electric clothes dryers (Note 2). Furthermore, running costs can be kept lower than gas clothes dryers using propane gas (Note 3), and it contributes to the effective utilization of renewable energy by combining with nighttime electricity or solar power generation.
While retaining the drying performance cultivated in Panasonic's laundry business, which gently finishes clothes with high airflow and low-temperature air, and the ease of use based on insights into daily life, the value of electric clothes dryers is further enhanced. The product name "Solaire" is a combination of the Spanish words "sol" meaning "sun" and "aire" meaning "air." It evokes the image of laundry drying comfortably in the sun and wind, and the feeling of relief and efficiency that comes from reducing household chores.
Through this product, Panasonic aims to propose a comfortable and new drying style, contributing to the improvement of cleanliness and comfort in daily life.
