Co-Development of Domestic Timber Lattice Louvers with Mitsubishi Jisho Design to Enhance the Aesthetics of System Ceilings

Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director, President & CEO: Kiyoshi Otaki, hereinafter 'Panasonic EW') has jointly developed a domestic timber lattice louver with Mitsubishi Jisho Design Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Junichi Yazawa, hereinafter 'Mitsubishi Jisho Design') to be used in combination with lighting compatible with system ceilings. Going forward, the Panasonic EW Engineering Center will promote this as a custom-order proposal for properties scheduled for completion in 2027 and beyond, while also proceeding with further product improvements and the establishment of sales channels. In recent years, office environments have been transforming into spaces that emphasize creativity, communication, and well-being. On the other hand, while system ceilings—which excel in workability and updatability—are mainstream in large-scale office buildings, the commercialization of highly designed ceiling materials effective for these changing office spaces has not progressed sufficiently. Furthermore, as the use of timber is promoted as a national policy, new ways to utilize wood in urban architecture are being sought. Given this background, the product was jointly developed by combining Mitsubishi Jisho Design's long-cultivated expertise in wood utilization and ceiling design with Panasonic EW's expertise in system ceiling materials and lighting. A key feature of this product is that it allows the incorporation of lattice louvers made of domestic timber into ceiling designs while remaining compatible with system ceilings. In addition, by implementing appropriate lighting plans that match the domestic wood lattice louvers, it brings a natural three-dimensional effect to the ceiling and provides a light environment suitable for the space's intended use. Furthermore, by using specialized mounting hardware, this product secures Panasonic EW's seismic safety standards required for system ceilings, despite using natural wood. Through this product, Panasonic EW will propose new options for interiors and lighting in system ceilings. Through continued co-creation with Mitsubishi Jisho Design, the company aims to contribute to the creation of sustainable spaces, including the use of timber, and expand its application to various uses, particularly offices. 1.
