Hochi Shimbun Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Takeshi Hasegawa), which publishes "Sports Hochi," will hold a special preview screening of the Hochi Film Award winning film "Bakumatsu Hippocrates" on Wednesday, April 22nd, at Hitotsubashi Hall in Tokyo. We will be inviting 800 people to this preview screening.

Set in the Bakumatsu period, an era when traditional Chinese herbal medicine doctors (Kanpo-i) from Tang China and Western medicine doctors (Ranpo-i) competed, an exhilarating medical historical drama has been born, set in a village in Kyoto. The struggles of the protagonist, a Western medicine doctor, and his aspirations for the future, along with the drama involving the doctors and people around him, are vividly depicted from a broad perspective that cherishes life. The lead actor is Kuranosuke Sasaki. This is the last film project of director Kazuki Omori, who passed away during the planning of this work, and who directed "Hippocrates" (80), a coming-of-age ensemble drama about medical students in Kyoto.
The protagonist is Takichi Okura, an audacious, refreshing, and curious Western medicine doctor who charges no fees to the poor. He is constantly bickering with Gensai (Takashi Naito), a Chinese herbal medicine doctor whose motto is "Kakkonto for any illness." One day, Takichi saves the hot-headed young man Shinza with surgery, and their lives change forever. As the village faces a crisis, what future will Takichi and his comrades find through their struggles?
