During his 10 years with the team, he won the batting title once, the home run title three times, and the RBI title three times, contributing to the team's 4 league championships and 3 Japan Series titles. In 2003, he moved to the MLB's New York Yankees. In 2009, he was awarded the World Series MVP. He recorded a total of 507 home runs in Japan and the US, establishing a prominent career in Japanese baseball and Major League Baseball.
