Hankyu Hanshin Express Selected as Official Agency for Tokyo's 'Scope 3 Logistics Measures Promotion Project' to Promote SAF and Biofuel Use

Hankyu Hanshin Express (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Osaka; President: Satoshi Yoshimoto) announced on June 2 that it has been selected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government as one of the freight agencies for the 'Project to Promote Scope 3 Measures (Logistics Field) for Companies (Air and Ocean Transport).'

In the context of corporate decarbonization, there is an increasing demand to reduce indirect emissions generated throughout the supply chain (Scope 3), in addition to direct emissions (Scope 1) and energy-related indirect emissions (Scope 2). To decarbonize air transport, which is considered to have high CO2 emissions, Tokyo launched a project in FY2024 to subsidize the additional costs incurred when companies registered in Tokyo use Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Starting in FY2026, the scope has been expanded to include maritime freight using biofuels.

Following its selection in FY2025, the company has been chosen as a freight agency for this project for the second consecutive year. During the eligible period from June 2026 to March 2027, Tokyo-based companies that use SAF or biofuels for air or ocean transport through Hankyu Hanshin Express will be eligible for subsidies for additional fuel costs and the issuance of 'CO2 Reduction Certificates' to prove their reduction achievements.

As a core member of the Hankyu Hanshin Holdings Group, the company will continue to push forward various ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives and contribute to environmental conservation activities aimed at achieving a decarbonized and circular society.
