The Dementia Basic Act, enacted in 2024, aims to realize a society of coexistence where people with dementia can continue to live with hope, based on a "new perspective on dementia." However, achieving this requires not only support for people with dementia but also the establishment of a comprehensive support system for families and others who provide care. In Japan, the care burden on families remains heavy, posing challenges such as balancing work and social life, and serious impacts on physical and mental health.
Against this backdrop, the Japan Center for Medical Policy (HGPI) Dementia Project has been working since April 2025 to organize the challenges and formulate policy recommendations on the theme of "The Future of Dementia Policies for Families Caring for People with Dementia." This symposium was held as a summary of the project, which has spanned approximately one year, through multi-stakeholder advisory board meetings and hearings.

About the HGPI Dementia Project
With the extension of lifespan, addressing "dementia" has become a major policy issue not only in Japan but also internationally.
HGPI views dementia as a global medical policy issue and has been working to promote policies at the global level.
With the mission of the project being "Promoting Collaboration Among Multiple Stakeholders for the Advancement of Dementia Policy," we engage in research, studies, and policy advocacy activities while deepening relationships with diverse stakeholders, under the three pillars of "Building a Global Platform," "Emphasizing the Perspective of Those Involved," and "Organizing and Disseminating Policy Issues."
