Rokko Kanko Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nada Ward, Kobe City; President: Akitaka Senoo) has announced that the delicate pink 'Sasayuri' lily has bloomed at the Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden, which it operates.

The Sasayuri is an endemic species native to Japan's satoyama (rural mountain) areas. While it naturally grows on Mount Rokko, its population has declined in recent years, making it rarely seen outside the garden—only a few can be found along the Rokko Cable Car or Drive Way. Within the garden, protective fencing against wild boars and regular mowing have created an environment where visitors can enjoy this precious local species in a near-natural habitat.

◆ Sasayuri (Liliaceae)

This native Japanese lily grows in grasslands and open woodlands of low mountainous regions from central Honshu westward to Kyushu. It reaches heights of 50–100 cm, with flowers measuring 10–15 cm in size. The Sasayuri is historically significant, mentioned in the 'Kojiki' (Records of Ancient Matters), where it is said to have bloomed at the site where Emperor Jimmu first encountered Princess Isukeru-hime. The flowers are expected to remain in bloom at the garden until mid-July.
