Hankyu Electric Railway today signed an additional 25MW corporate PPA*1 for railway power. This brings the total corporate PPA to 30MW, including the 5MW corporate PPA that began receiving power in April 2025. This additional agreement was concluded with Kansai Electric Power, with Sun Trinity LLC and Marubeni Shin Denryoku Corporation as power generation businesses, utilizing electricity generated by the development and operation of new solar power generation facilities.
After the completion of all power source developments under this additional agreement, expected in fiscal year 2029 or later, the total power generated by corporate PPA is anticipated to be approximately 52 million kWh annually. This accounts for 16.7% of the total electricity used for Hankyu Electric Railway's railway operations. Furthermore, during daytime hours, a maximum of 28,000 kW of power generation per hour is expected, which is sufficient to cover 60% of the electricity used during the same period. This additional agreement is projected to newly reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 18,000 tons annually, equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of about 7,300 ordinary households.
Through this initiative, our company will promote the introduction of new solar power generation facilities and continue to contribute to the creation of environmental value and the realization of a decarbonized society.
*1 About Corporate PPA A long-term, fixed-price power supply contract where a power consumer receives electricity supply from an off-site solar power generation facility, located away from the demand site, via a power generation business and a retail electricity business. PPA stands for "Power Purchase Agreement."
● Overview of this additional agreement
● Mechanism for achieving "Carbon-Neutral Operation for All Lines"
We are achieving "carbon-neutral operation for all lines," which effectively eliminates CO2 emissions, by using renewable energy-derived electricity, including the newly added corporate PPA, and electricity generated by solar power generation facilities installed at Settsu City Station, Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Station, Shōjaku Factory, and Hotarugaike Station (which started operation at the end of March 2026), in addition to utilizing Kansai Electric Power's "Saiene ECO Plan"*2.
*2 About Saiene ECO Plan Kansai Electric Power's CO2-free electricity rate plan with added environmental value from non-fossil certificates (derived from renewable energy).
