Hajime Kensetsu Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; President: Tadami Horiguchi; hereinafter referred to as Hajime Kensetsu), a core company of Iida Group Holdings, held a "Construction Site Tour for Wooden Houses" for 59 first and second-year students of the Architecture Department at Sendai Municipal Sendai Technical High School (Location: Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture; hereinafter referred to as Sendai Technical High School) on June 22, 2026 (Mon.).
Purpose of Holding the "Construction Site Tour for Wooden Houses"
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the number of workers in the construction industry is projected to be 4.78 million in 2025, a decrease of approximately 30% from the peak of 6.85 million in 1997*1. Furthermore, due to the large number of retirements among the baby boomer generation and the response to the overtime work hour limits enforced in April 2024 (the "2024 problem" in the construction industry)*2, improving productivity and securing human resources are major challenges for the entire industry.
In addition, the market for hiring high school graduates continues to be a seller's market. The job opening ratio for new high school graduates in 2024 was approximately 4.10 times, compared to about 1.66 times for university graduates, and reached approximately 31.90 times for graduates of technical high schools.
In light of these circumstances, Hajime Kensetsu held this site tour with the aim of deepening the understanding of the construction and housing industries among high school students studying architecture by allowing them to experience a construction site for wooden houses.

At the site tour, after an opening address by Executive Officer Fujikawa, Hajime Kensetsu introduced its heatstroke countermeasures to the high school students.
Subsequently, the 59 high school students were divided into three groups to tour the construction site. They received explanations about the foundation work that supports the house, and learned about the lumber, hardware, roof framing, structural sheathing, wiring/piping work, and interior framing used in houses. They also gained an understanding of the changing work styles at construction sites due to construction DX by being introduced to site management operations using the construction management app "ANDPAD."
Furthermore, carpenters working as full-time employees at Hajime Kensetsu demonstrated the safe use of power tools, and six representative high school students experienced screw driving. In addition, explanations were given about the differences between contract carpenters and company carpenters, their job duties, work styles, and how to read job postings, introducing the diverse career and career path possibilities in the construction industry.
Additionally, during the tour of completed houses, participants experienced living spaces where kitchens and furniture were actually placed, deepening their understanding of home building while imagining life after the house is completed.
Comments from Students Who Participated in the "Construction Site Tour for Wooden Houses"
Comments from participating high school students included:
"I was interested in a career designing buildings, but through this site tour, I also found the work of a carpenter appealing. By experiencing work with power tools and hearing from people working on site, I gained a new perspective on my future career path."
"At school, I learn about architecture through textbooks and classes, but by seeing an actual construction site, I was able to concretely imagine the workflow and the process of completing a building. It was a very valuable experience to hear directly from the people working on site."
