About the Future Logistics Co-creation Conference: Addressing Social Issues That Cannot Be Solved by a Single Company

Due to the deepening shortage of truck drivers, it is becoming difficult to continue transporting goods in the same way as before. In this context, logistics reform is an important management issue not only for logistics providers but also for shipper companies that request delivery of goods.

However, logistics, by its nature of transferring goods, involves multiple companies. To maintain a world where goods are delivered as a matter of course with limited personnel and vehicles, initiatives such as joint transportation, where goods are transported on the same truck across corporate and industry boundaries, are becoming increasingly important. Such initiatives cannot be realized by a single company and require cooperation between companies.

Against this backdrop, Hacobu has been holding the "Future Logistics Co-creation Conference" since 2022, where CLOs and logistics leaders from shipper companies engage in dialogue. It is a forum for sharing challenges and initiatives and thinking together beyond corporate and industry boundaries to achieve sustainable logistics.

Kenji Sato, CSO (Chief Strategy Officer) of Hacobu, explaining during the session on joint transportation.

Introduction of logistics reform initiatives by participating companies

Since April 2026, shipper companies of a certain scale or larger have been obligated to appoint a Logistics General Manager (CLO). Amidst the deepening shortage of truck drivers, it is required that management take responsibility and proactively drive logistics improvements, rather than leaving them to the operational level. In this session, companies shared their initiatives and future challenges in response to these changes.

Session on Joint Transportation

Based on overseas logistics trends and advanced domestic case studies, opinions were exchanged on the challenges and recent initiatives toward realizing joint transportation. Considering Japan's industrial structure with many small and medium-sized enterprises and its business customs, compared to the U.S. and Europe, discussions were held on the necessary conditions and effective methods for smoothly advancing joint transportation.

AI Utilization in Logistics Session

Based on issues raised by participants, the potential for AI utilization in logistics was discussed. The focus was not on whether AI should be used, but rather on how to incorporate it into actual operations, assuming its utilization, and how to connect it to efficiency improvements and solutions to social issues.

Hiroki Toi, CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of Hacobu, explaining during the session on AI utilization in logistics.

The themes of joint transportation and AI utilization have moved from the stage of discussing "whether it is possible" to the stage of considering "how to realize it." The interest of participating companies has also expanded to more practical themes, such as how to utilize them in actual operations and businesses.

On the other hand, logistics challenges cannot be solved by a single company. Especially for themes that assume inter-company cooperation, such as joint transportation, dialogue across industry and corporate boundaries is necessary. In AI utilization and operational reform, sharing advanced cases and knowledge from other companies is also considered a hint to advance one's own initiatives.

The "Future Logistics Co-creation Conference" has been held repeatedly as a forum for shipper companies across industries to frankly exchange opinions on such practical issues and the latest initiatives, leading to new collaborations and learning. Hacobu will continue to promote dialogue and co-creation among shipper companies and contribute to the realization of sustainable logistics.
