Hachito Hitoto Co., Ltd. (Suo-Oshima Town, Yamaguchi Prefecture https://hachito-hitoto.co.jp/) is launching the "Honeybee Coexistence Lab" project, aiming for a future where honeybees, people, and forests grow together. We will promote the creation of a "well-being island" where nature and people harmonize, fostering a rich environment that connects to the next generation.
■Background to Realizing the Dream
Of the honey distributed in Japan, only 6% is domestically produced. Heatwaves caused by climate change and the decrease in flowers are severely affecting the ecology of honeybees, and the number of honeybees is declining worldwide.
Japan is no exception; recent abnormal weather and other factors have made beekeeping extremely difficult.
Without honeybees, neither flowers nor fruits, nor our dining tables, can exist.
To "solve this problem from the region," we propose a lifestyle of regenerating abandoned farmland and living with honeybees. "Raising honeybees means nurturing the environment."
With this in mind, we have continued activities to regenerate abandoned farmland and plant trees.
However, to pass on nature to the next generation, we felt the need to proceed more quickly and powerfully with more partners, and so we started creating a base for learning and experience.
■Project Overview: What is the Honeybee Coexistence Lab?
The dream we envision is to create a base where honeybees, people, and forests grow together on an island in the Seto Inland Sea, Suo-Oshima, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
It's called the "Honeybee Coexistence Lab." This is a place to learn, feel, and share "the power to live" while connecting with nature. At this lab, we aim to provide "experiences where people and nature grow together" through workshops that involve interacting with nature, such as building beehives and harvesting honey, regenerative activities to restore abandoned farmland and plant nectar-source flowers and trees, environmental education for children, and co-education programs with companies and local governments.
"Raising honeybees means nurturing the forest. Nurturing the forest means nurturing people."
We want to create such a cycle with the island's residents and visitors.
This initiative will start with crowdfunding on March 21, 2026.
Together with partners nationwide, we will disseminate a model case of a well-being island from Suo-Oshima, an island in the Seto Inland Sea.
■Message from the Representative
The day I peered into a beehive with my grandfather when I was a child.
Amidst the small buzzing, I felt the rhythm of nature and the connection of life.
That experience is my origin today.
Now, on Earth, the number of honeybees is decreasing, forests are thinning, and people's hearts are somehow chasing busyness.
That's why I want to regain a "lifestyle where nature and people harmonize" once again.
The Honeybee Coexistence Lab is not just a place for experiences.
It is a place where children and adults, companies and communities, learn to "grow together."
Our dream is to make Suo-Oshima a model of a well-being island.
To realize sustainable happiness for honeybees, people, nature, and the Earth, each in their own way.
And to spread the circle of hope carried by small honeybees nationwide and worldwide, ensuring that our future food remains as rich as it is now.
Thinking globally and acting locally is the only way we can do it now.

Crowdfunding Challenge Underway!
We are serious about shaping a "future where honeybees, people, and forests grow together" on this island.
However, we cannot achieve it with our strength alone.
What we are looking for now are companies and local governments engaged in environmental education and community development, children, students, and educators who want to learn about a sustainable future, and individuals who want to spread a lifestyle in harmony with nature. Won't you join us in creating a "well-being island model" based at the Honeybee Coexistence Lab, through tree planting, experiences, education, and product development?
Your single step, like the buzzing of a honeybee, will quietly but surely move the future.
Crowdfunding Overview Implementation Period: March 21, 2026 - April 30, 2026
