"A Peaceful Adventure for Big Kids"
Watching the YouTube channel "Mori Konnyaku" is a relaxing time for me. The main character of this channel, Mori Konnyaku, is a father of two. He is an incredibly kind father, and while he is a perfectly capable adult, his actions and interests remain those of a third-grader. He goes out into the fields and mountains with his children and friends of similar age, but he and the adults appearing are all more like elementary schoolers than the children themselves. Then, they excitedly catch creatures they want to find with their own hands, sometimes raise them, and resolve their questions.
It's like a creature version of the movie "Stand by Me," and watching it reminds me of my own childhood, filling me with nostalgia. There's no adult pride or pretense. No preconceived notions or pretending to know things. Just peaceful time flowing by.
This book deals with creature breeding, one of the channel's great charms. In this internet age, it's easy to feel like you understand things just by looking them up quickly, but putting that aside, it's all about hands-on experience. Then, a world that's barely on the internet opens up. You can't understand everything just by searching. And the greatest adventures of knowledge are right in our immediate surroundings. I think this book teaches us that.
Now, let's grab a bucket and net and head out to the fields and mountains. If more adults approach creatures with the same seriousness as Mori Konnyaku, without forgetting their childhood curiosity, our local nature will become an even richer place for discovery. This book will surely provide the first step towards that.
