KADOKAWA Corporation (headquartered in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; Director, Representative Executive Officer and CEO: Tsuyoshi Natsuno) will release a new book titled "The Science of Pitching: How to Gain 10 km/h on Your Fastball — Insights Gained from Coaching Over 100 Professional Baseball Players" by Yusuke Kitagawa, CEO of DIMENSIONING Co., Ltd., and trainer Tatsuya Sakai, on Monday, June 29, 2026.

This book systematically presents a comprehensive pitcher development methodology developed by DIMENSIONING, an organization that has coached more than 100 professional baseball players and produced over 60 NPB draft picks. It covers the philosophy behind increasing pitching velocity, pitching mechanics, physical conditioning, and practical techniques including breaking pitches.

"I want to throw faster, but I don't know how." "Despite training, my pitching speed isn't improving." "I want to fix my pitching form, but I don't know what to change." "I want to understand pitching not just by feel, but also through logic."

This book compiles the knowledge and practical methods designed for players, coaches, and parents struggling with such issues, aiming to turn improvement from a matter of chance into a deliberate process.

Increasing pitching velocity is no longer limited to a select few geniuses. With advances in tracking and measurement technologies, elements of pitching that were once described only subjectively—such as ball speed, spin rate, and movement—can now be visualized numerically.

However, knowing something and being able to apply it in actual pitching are two entirely different things. What matters most is not merely memorizing correct information, but internalizing it and transforming it into usable wisdom for your own body.

In this book, the authors—who have worked with countless pitchers in real-world settings—explain the relationship between "mechanics" and "mass" that generates velocity, how to efficiently transfer energy to the ball without loss, conceptual frameworks for progressively mastering pitching movements, and practical in-game techniques for turning velocity into a competitive advantage, all supported by numerous drills.

Five key perspectives offered by this book

Velocity is not determined by "talent" alone Thanks to advances in measurement technology and sports science, the mechanisms behind increasing pitching speed are gradually being revealed. The key is translating accurate knowledge into practice.

"Knowing" is not the same as "being able to use" In an era where information is readily available via YouTube and social media, the ability to customize knowledge to fit your own body is more important than ever.

Velocity is generated by the combination of "mechanics" and "mass" Throwing a faster pitch requires not only proper body mechanics but also building a body capable of generating force. Only when both elements work together can you produce a truly powerful pitch.

Bridging the gap between feel and science Data is not an absolute truth, but a clue to understanding your own condition. By moving fluidly between numbers and physical sensation, you can develop a pitching style that fits you best.

Transforming velocity into a winning weapon Simply throwing hard doesn't make for effective pitching. To win games, you must combine velocity with off-speed pitches, intimidation, and strategic pitch sequencing.

Afterword

Message from the Authors: Yusuke Kitagawa and Tatsuya Sakai

In recent years, the environment surrounding pitchers has changed dramatically. In both NPB and MLB, average pitching velocities continue to rise. The entire baseball world is moving toward throwing faster pitches.

So why are velocities increasing? The answer is simple: because we are gradually beginning to understand how to increase velocity.

However, knowledge alone cannot be directly applied. Baseball inevitably involves subjective "feelings," and these sensations vary greatly from player to player.

That's why we have focused not on applying knowledge as a one-size-fits-all "correct answer," but on adapting it to each player's individual sensations and background, tailoring it so each athlete can reach their fullest potential.

Many players limit themselves prematurely, believing "this is as good as I can get." But with the right mindset and consistent training, it's possible to reach untapped potential that hasn't yet been realized.

For players, coaches, and trainers alike, this book compiles what is essential today to avoid being left behind in this era of increasing velocity, organizing it into a clear, reproducible format.

Author Profiles

Yusuke Kitagawa CEO of DIMENSIONING Co., Ltd.; sports trainer. Born in Chiba Prefecture. Graduated from Tsukuba University.

Studied human science and training theory at university. After graduation, he gained experience as a trainer and founded DIMENSIONING Co., Ltd. at age 26, offering unique therapeutic and training methods. He has supported numerous baseball players in improving pitching velocity and body mechanics, and has been involved in the physical conditioning of over 100 athletes in NPB and MLB.
