After serving as a researcher at the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology (Faculty of Letters), The University of Tokyo, he assumed his current position. His books include "The Genealogy and Authority of the Medieval Ashikaga Clan" and "The Ashikaga Clan, King of the Warrior Class" (both from Yoshikawa Kobunkan), "Being in Kamakura: Eastern Warrior Clans in the Muromachi Period" (Kamakura Archaeological Institute), and "Japanese Medieval History Through Division and Integration" (Yamakawa Shuppansha). He clarified that Nitta Yoshisada was not of the main lineage of the Minamoto clan but a collateral branch of the Ashikaga clan, and pointed out the influence of "Taiheiki."
