Griteen (CEO: Haruka Tada), which operates the online programming school 'griteen' for girls, in collaboration with Rino Partners (CEO: Akiko Hosoki), will host a free online seminar for parents of elementary to high school students, titled: 'How to Raise Girls to Thrive in the AI Era: A Dialogue Between a 23-Year-Old Entrepreneur/World-Champion in Robotics and a Former NTT Female Executive on How STEM Skills Lead to Freedom and Future Options.'
In the face of rapid AI advancement and changing social conditions, children need more than just knowledge; they need the ability to identify and solve problems, as well as the strength to remain resilient. This webinar features two professionals who have carved out successful careers using 'STEM power' across different generations. They will share insights on shifting mindsets at home and practical tips for fostering autonomous learning and resilience.
Background and Objectives The low ratio of women in STEM fields in Japan and unconscious gender biases, such as 'girls are bad at math,' remain rooted in households and education. However, in today's business landscape, companies are eager to hire 'STEM-proficient women' who bring diverse perspectives.
This seminar features 23-year-old Haruka Tada, who built her career as a tech entrepreneur after starting as a shy student, and Akiko Hosoki, who climbed the ranks to become the first female department manager in an NTT technical field. They will share from a parental perspective how IT/STEM skills expand life's options (freedom) and the true value of early programming and inquiry-based learning.
Three Highlights of the Talk Session 1. STEM Power: The Ultimate Language to Expand Life's Options IT skills and understanding technology are universal tools that cross borders. Haruka Tada, who studies educational engineering, will explain how technology enables flexible working styles and how to dismantle the gender biases we may unconsciously instill at home.
2. The Reality of Business: Why Companies Desire STEM Women Akiko Hosoki will explain the rarity and value of women in STEM as agents of change within large corporations' decision-making levels. She will discuss how diverse perspectives create explosive organizational strength, going beyond simple numerical targets.
3. Fostering 'Grit' and 'Flexibility' Together, they will address the most pressing question for parents: 'How can I raise my child to be an autonomous learner with resilience?' By combining Tada’s experience of winning the world robotics championship through grit with Hosoki’s expertise in flexibility, they will propose practical ways for families to maximize their child’s potential.
