The Green Co-op Community (Head Office: Hakata-ku, Fukuoka-shi; Representative Director: Yoko Hidaka; hereinafter, Green Co-op), an incorporated association comprising 16 consumer cooperatives mainly in Western Japan, has set a goal to achieve virtually zero (net-zero) CO₂ emissions from its business activities by 2027, and is currently implementing initiatives to achieve this.

*Scope 1: Virtually zero direct emissions from its own operations, and Scope 2: Virtually zero indirect emissions from energy sources such as electricity, heat, and steam purchased and used by the company.

As part of this effort, Green Co-op is promoting "participatory environmental actions" to curb CO₂ emissions, involving approximately 430,000 members. These initiatives consist of the following three points:

- Utilizing reusable and recyclable containers and establishing a system for their return and resource recycling.
- Prioritizing the use of domestically produced goods (Food Mileage movement) to reduce CO₂ associated with transportation.
- Quantifying action results, accumulating contributions based on reduction achievements, and utilizing them for environmental measures.

By creating a system that allows members to participate easily in their daily lives, Green Co-op is increasing member engagement.

Overall Results for February 2026

As a result of these three activities, the following achievements were obtained:

- Approximately 810 tons of CO₂ emissions reduced (equivalent to the amount absorbed by approximately 57,000 cedar trees in one year).
- Total number of reusable containers used: approximately 1,240,000 bottles/packs.
- Total amount of recycled materials collected: approximately 265 tons.
- CO₂ reduced by using domestically produced goods: approximately 698 tons.
- Total contributions accumulated based on reductions: approximately 42 million yen (42,430,056 yen).

This initiative aims to reduce waste and suppress greenhouse gas emissions by adopting bottled products like milk bottles and molded packs made from recycled paper, as well as collecting and recycling used materials such as food trays, delivery bags, and catalogs. These quantities are monitored monthly. Through this activity, approximately 113 tons of CO₂ were reduced in February 2026.

The collection results for February 2026 are as follows:

Bottles and packs used
Milk bottles:
442,070 units
Reusable packs:

○Food Mileage Movement in February 2026

In procuring food ingredients, Green Co-op prioritizes domestically produced goods, which have shorter transportation distances (food mileage) compared to imported goods. This system links daily shopping behaviors to greenhouse gas reduction.

Through the use of such domestically produced goods, approximately 698 tons of CO₂ were reduced in February 2026.

○Contribution Funds in February 2026

Green Co-op independently contributes funds monthly, corresponding to the amount of CO₂ reduced by its members' actions. These funds are utilized for creating a decarbonized society and establishing recycling systems, such as mangrove planting, introduction of EV trucks, and reduction of dry ice.

In February 2026, a total of 42,430,056 yen (approximately 42 million yen) was accumulated through these activities.

In 2018, the "Green Co-op Community, an Incorporated Association" was established together with the Green Co-op Consumer Co-operative Federation, Green Co-op Social Welfare Corporation, labor cooperatives, and various other organizations across 16 co-ops in Kyushu (Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Oita, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Kagoshima), Kinki (Osaka, Hyogo, Shiga), Chugoku (Tottori, Okayama, Shimane, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi), and Fukushima. They have been active as community-based consumer cooperatives, sharing and collaborating resources as if they were one Green Co-op. Their activities began with a mother's desire to "let children eat safe and secure food" and aim to enrich each region.
