Monthly Results of Reuse/Recycling and Food Mileage Movement by Members to Achieve Zero CO₂ Emissions from Business Operations by 2027

Green Coop Community (Headquarters: Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City; Representative Director: Yoko Hidaka; hereinafter Green Coop), composed of 16 co-ops mainly in western Japan, has set a goal to achieve virtually zero (*) CO₂ emissions from its business activities by 2027 and is currently implementing initiatives to realize this.

※ To make direct emissions from the company (Scope 1) and indirect emissions from energy sources such as electricity, heat, and steam purchased and used by the company (Scope 2) virtually zero.

As part of this, we are promoting 'participatory environmental actions' by approximately 430,000 members to curb CO₂ emissions. The initiatives are the following three:

① Utilize reuse/recycling containers and establish a system for their return and rematerialization.

② Reduce CO₂ from transportation by prioritizing domestic products (food mileage movement).

③ Quantify action results, accumulate contributions based on reduction achievements, and utilize them for environmental measures.

By creating a system that allows for effortless participation in daily life, we are increasing members' motivation to participate.

January 2026 Results (Overall)

As a result of the three activities, the following achievements were made:

l CO₂ emissions reduced by approximately 649 tons (equivalent to the amount absorbed by about 46,000 cedar trees in one year)

l Total number of reused containers used: approximately 779,000 bottles/packs

l Total amount of recycled materials collected: approximately 235 tons

l CO₂ reduced by using domestic products: approximately 559 tons

l Contribution amount based on reduction: total of approximately 33 million yen

〇January 2026 Reuse/Recycling Results

This initiative aims to reduce waste and suppress greenhouse gas emissions by adopting products in bottles such as milk bottles, molded packs made from recycled paper, and by returning and rematerializing used materials like food trays, delivery bags, and catalogs. We monitor these quantities monthly. Through this activity, we achieved a CO₂ reduction of about 90 tons in January 2026.
