Green Label LLC, a company engaged in community management, SDGs writing, and public relations, announced the relaunch of PR Woman Net® Chapter 2. The initiative aims to help create an era in which the term “women’s support” is no longer necessary. The Equal Employment Opportunity Act in Japan marks its 40th year since enforcement in April 1986. Over the years, many initiatives have sought to change the way women work and live. While some progress has been made, many areas remain unchanged, and in some cases time has passed without sufficient action. Some efforts that appeared to advance may also have become merely formal. PR Woman Net began in 2006 as the mixi community “PR Women, Gather!” It served as a place for women in corporate PR to connect, bringing together as many as 1,600 people from large corporations to solo businesses, and operated until 2023. Over 17 years, it hosted more than 300 events and seminars. During that time, the number of women involved in PR increased, and more spaces emerged where women in PR could build their own networks. Believing that the original community had fulfilled its role, PR Woman Net closed in 2023. Today, many PR communities open to all genders exist across Japan, and representative Midori Ito participates in several of them. Drawing on the experience of creating a space that had not previously existed, Green Label is relaunching PR Woman Net not for women corporate PR professionals, but as a place where organizations led by women and organizations supporting women can connect. The renewed initiative will operate as “PR Woman Net® Chapter 2.” The new PR Woman Net® Chapter 2 will focus on building relationships with organizations led by women, including companies, NPOs, incorporated associations, associations, voluntary groups, and communities; building relationships with organizations that support women; addressing local issues such as shrines and vacant houses while connecting with relevant groups; managing women’s communities in fields often considered male-dominated, such as women anglers, and connecting them with organizations and companies; and sharing information, writing, and speaking on these themes. PR Woman Net has traditionally avoided terms such as “members” or “affiliation,” instead referring to people as those with whom it has formed connections. The relaunched initiative will similarly focus on creating spaces with organizations that share such connections. Since 2020, Midori Ito has written for SDGs Navi as an SDGs writer, which increased her opportunities to think about gender issues and the ways women live and work. In parallel, she encountered individuals and organizations supporting people and causes, and naturally began taking action to support them. Examples include supporting General Incorporated Association Onara, which helps adults who grew up experiencing abuse, by assisting with press release writing; speaking with Ren Yamamoto of the Regional Girls Project, as Ito herself is from a regional area; and discussing information dissemination with Shizuka Kakei of Olive Photo Style in Ichinomiya, Aichi. Ito also hopes to build connections with women who are working to change what they want to change and protect what they want to preserve. Communities she operates include the women anglers’ community and media platform “Tsurijoshi Atsumare!”, the shrine-loving women’s group “Kagurame-kai,” and “Kominka Joshi-kai,” a community for people interested in making effective use of old houses and vacant homes. Ito says she has long felt some discomfort with the phrase “women’s support,” as it can imply that women cannot do anything unless they are supported. Although it may still sound like a dream, she decided to relaunch PR Woman Net® with the hope that women will one day be able to naturally pursue what they want to obtain, to the point where the phrase “women’s support” is no longer needed. She also believes that being able to naturally pursue what one wants should apply to all people, regardless of gender. At the same time, she feels that being able to choose not to pursue something is also necessary today. As a lyricist, she has written many lyrics about fulfilling dreams, but fulfilling a dream often comes with hardship. For that reason, choosing not to fulfill a dream can also be a valid way for a person to live. PR Woman Net was launched on January 22, 2006, through the mixi community “PR Women, Gather!” After attracting 300 people within a few months, it held its first PR Woman Meeting in 2008 and continued activities until 2023. Midori Ito is from Aichi Prefecture and lives in Tokyo, maintaining bases in both Tokyo and Aichi since 2022. She works as an SDGs/SWGs writer, business writer, PR professional, regional revitalization practitioner, vocational school lecturer, music writer, and lyricist. She began writing in 2000 and corporate PR work in 2001. From 2004 to 2007, she wrote for every issue of Sendenkaigi’s PRIR, now known as Kouhou Kaigi. Through interviews with women in PR, she noticed the lack of horizontal connections among them, leading her to launch the mixi community in 2006. Since 2012, she has launched and operated “Ibaraki Bina-bu” to promote agricultural products from Ibaraki Prefecture as part of work for the prefectural government. Since 2018, she has also managed the Instagram account for “Itako Tsurijoshi-bu” under commission from Itako City, Ibaraki Prefecture, through March 2026. She specializes in creating spaces where women participate. Since 2020, she has written SDGs-related articles for SDGs Navi, Newsweek Japan, and other outlets, and has appeared as a commentator on SDGs topics on Kansai TV, ABEMA Prime, and TOKYO FM. Her main work is writing and PR that explains SDGs in Japan’s most accessible way, while also working as a music vocational school lecturer, music writer, and lyricist. She has experienced more than 50 types of work to date. Green Label LLC was established in May 2015 and is represented by Midori Ito. PR Woman Net is operated by Green Label LLC.
