Granvista Hotels & Resorts (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Yukio Arai) operates Hotel Intergate Kyoto Shijo Shinmachi (Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto; General Manager: Yoshinori Endo), which hosts the "Maiko and Japanese Candles' Light ~Touching Kyoto's Traditional Culture~" event, featuring maiko dances and talk shows, once a month. We are pleased to announce that the schedule for April 2026 to March 2027 has now been finalized.
Kyoto is one of Japan's leading tourist cities, attracting many visitors from both Japan and abroad. In recent years, tourism has expanded beyond visiting famous historical sites to "experiential tourism," where visitors actually experience the culture and lifestyle unique to the region.
This event is a popular program, approximately one hour in length, condensing the essence of Kyoto's proud traditional industries. You can enjoy maiko performances presented under the fantastic glow of Japanese candles, a talk show about the costumes of Kyoto City-designated traditional industries, aspirational ozashiki games, and commemorative photos with the maiko. Furthermore, participants in this event will receive one "Ofuki" smartphone wipe, an original Intergate Hotels product made from Kyo-Yuzen hand-dyed silk. Please take this opportunity to experience a moment of touching the beauty of Kyoto's traditional industries and the profound culture that has been passed down through generations.
*Based on the Kyoto City Traditional Industries Revitalization Promotion Ordinance, and in response to a report from the Kyoto City Traditional Industries Revitalization Promotion Council, Kyoto City has designated 74 items as traditional industrial products. Among the traditional industry and cultural experiences offered, "various decorations worn by maiko, such as Nishijin-ori and Kyo-Yuzen" and "Japanese candles" are Kyoto City-designated traditional industrial products.
