We endorse April Dream, an initiative to make April 1st a day to express dreams. This press release is the dream of certified NPO Good Neighbors Japan (GNJP).
## ■ Why do we speak of this dream now?
In Japan, it is estimated that there are approximately 600,000 single-parent households facing economic hardship*.
Parents worried about daily food expenses, skipping meals themselves to feed their children. Still, it's not enough, and the reality is that children cannot sufficiently eat three meals a day.
Such families undoubtedly exist in Japan today.
Eating is the fundamental basis for children to grow and forge their future.
And the healthy growth of children creates the future of Japan.
That is why we advocate the dream of "zero hungry children in Japan," to make it commonplace for children not to endure hunger today and not to worry about tomorrow's meals.
## ■ "Good Gohan" has created a "food safety net"
The food bank program "Good Gohan," operated by certified NPO Good Neighbors Japan, is a system that delivers food donated by companies and individuals to single-parent households in need, free of charge.
Currently, we deliver food to over 5,000 households monthly** at three bases in the metropolitan area, Kinki region, and Kyushu.
"When you're in trouble, there are people who will help you."
We conduct our daily activities valuing communication with those receiving food, so that they feel this way.
## ■ April Dream | The future envisioned by Good Gohan
What we are looking towards is a society where, starting with food, poverty is not just "temporarily alleviated," but significantly reduced in the long term.
To that end, we are expanding our operations with the following vision:
- Expand the support network to 10 locations nationwide, creating a system to deliver food assistance to 60,000 households monthly.
- Promote collaboration with other like-minded organizations to create a society where all needy households can access necessary food support.
- Beyond food assistance, expand the circle of support to address underlying issues of poverty, such as children's learning and experiences, safe places, clothing and daily necessities, housing, and childcare expenses.
From "eating" to "living."
That is the dream of Good Gohan.
## ■ This dream can only be realized if we build it together
This future cannot be achieved by our organization alone.
