JCB Co., Ltd. (hereinafter: JCB) and NTT DATA Corporation (hereinafter: NTT DATA) are advancing initiatives to prevent credit card fraud before it occurs. On March 23, 2026, NTT DATA launched "MiMORiTH™" (pronounced: Mimoris; hereinafter: this service), an information utilization platform that enables proactive measures against credit card fraud. JCB has adopted this service as its first user, aiming to enhance its response to fraudulent activity.
By utilizing this service, financial institutions, including card companies, can identify early signs of potential fraud and, while complementing existing countermeasures, take action to reduce risk before damage occurs.
[Background] According to data published by the Japan Credit Association, the amount of damage caused by credit card fraud has remained at a high level, exceeding 50 billion yen since 2023. The situation remains serious, with unauthorized use of card numbers accounting for 90% of these cases (Note 1).
In this environment, card companies are under greater pressure than ever to fulfill their responsibility of supporting safe and secure payment usage by detecting fraud early and preventing it from occurring.
JCB has previously implemented measures focused on the time of and after transactions, such as identity verification during payment, system-based fraud detection (monitoring), stopping product shipments after fraud is detected, and card suspension or reissuance.
However, as fraud methods become more sophisticated and complex, there is an increasing need to identify risk indicators and take preemptive action at a stage before the fraud becomes apparent, in addition to transaction-time measures and post-incident responses.
For this reason, JCB has been considering new initiatives to complement its existing measures and capture fraud risks at an earlier stage.
Based on this awareness of the challenges faced by card companies, NTT DATA released "MiMORiTH," a platform that organizes and analyzes various types of information that could lead to fraud and provides it in a format that is easy to use in practical operations. JCB, in addition to enhancing its own fraud countermeasures, agreed with NTT DATA's goal of contributing to the deterrence of fraud across the entire industry through the utilization of information related to fraudulent use, and has adopted this service as its first user.
[Overview of MiMORiTH] MiMORiTH is an information utilization platform that organizes and analyzes various types of information related to fraudulent use and provides it in a format that allows financial institutions, such as card companies, to easily cross-reference it with their own data. By utilizing MiMORiTH, financial institutions can identify events that could lead to fraud at an early stage, thereby complementing and enhancing their existing fraud detection and monitoring operations.
This allows for faster and more appropriate decision-making regarding responses such as usage restrictions and issuing alerts, contributing to the suppression of fraud damage and the reduction of the burden on customer support.
Furthermore, this service is operated under strict security management measures and can be introduced without significantly changing existing business processes, enabling a phased strengthening of countermeasures.
[Future Outlook] Moving forward, NTT DATA and JCB will continue to strengthen their efforts to deter fraud in the financial sector and build a highly reliable transaction environment.
Through the provision of this service, NTT DATA will contribute to the deterrence of credit card fraud across the entire industry. Additionally, with a view to expanding beyond the card industry to the entire financial sector, including banking, securities, and insurance, NTT DATA will sequentially proceed with functional expansions and service enhancements for MiMORiTH.
JCB aims to further strengthen its credit card fraud countermeasures through the use of this service.
Through this initiative, both companies will contribute to the realization of a safe and secure payment and financial transaction environment.
