Canon will begin offering 'MREAL Collaborator,' an XR collaboration software that enables 3D CG sharing via OpenXR(TM)-compatible devices, in early July 2026.

Enable 3D CG Sharing Across Multiple Devices

As the XR market expands, expectations for XR adoption in manufacturing are rising. However, due to operational burdens such as complex device and software operations and time-consuming data preparation, full-scale integration into business operations has not yet progressed. Even after implementation, differences in operator proficiency lead to variations in work time and image quality, resulting in reduced equipment utilization and dependency on skilled workers. 'MREAL Collaborator' is an XR collaboration software that allows users to easily view 3D CG at actual size in stereoscopic vision. Its simple UI enables intuitive operation even for users without specialized 3D CG knowledge. Furthermore, by supporting different XR devices (※3) compliant with 'OpenXR(TM),' it enables remote 3D CG sharing, promoting smooth communication regardless of device or location, and supporting enhanced team collaboration.

Intuitive Operation Through Redesigned UI

Building on the existing software 'MREAL Visualizer' (※4), which overlays 3D CG onto real-world video, 'MREAL Collaborator' streamlines functionality and redesigns the UI. By simplifying on-screen displays, it enables intuitive operation not only for 3D CG designers but also for factory workers and sales personnel who lack specialized knowledge.

Support for Multiple XR Devices Enhances Team Collaboration

The software complies with 'OpenXR(TM),' the industry standard specification for interoperability between XR devices and software. In addition to Canon's own MR (Mixed Reality) system 'MREAL,' it supports third-party devices compatible with OpenXR(TM), enabling companies to build XR environments while leveraging existing hardware. This allows participants using different devices to connect online from remote locations and discuss or review 3D CG in real time. For example, in the early stages of product development in manufacturing, it facilitates design discussions, reviews using 3D CG, and shared visualization across departments. By promoting smooth communication, it contributes to improved mutual understanding and stronger team collaboration.

※1 OpenXR(TM) is a specification developed by the U.S.-based Khronos Group to standardize interfaces between XR devices and software. Compliance enables applications to run on a wide range of XR devices and allows developers to create applications using a common interface.

※2 The software will be offered free of charge at launch, but specifications and terms may change in the future. A paid add-on will be required from launch for CAD file support (compatible with NX and CATIA V5).

※3 For details, please refer to Canon's official website.

※4 The first version was released in October 2014.
