Upcycled art using traditional kimonos, harmonizing with the extraordinary space of the hotel lounge. Russian-born textile artist Lena Okamoto has gained attention both in Japan and abroad for her works that fuse traditional crafts with modern design, utilizing antique and vintage "Jidai Kimono" (traditional kimonos). The upcycled art project "ikasu," led by Ms. Okamoto, breathes new value and stories into kimonos and obi that have served their purpose, reconstructing them as contemporary textile works while respecting the history and memories embedded in the materials. This exhibition will feature a total of 53 pieces, including 44 new works created with the theme "Light and Colors Blurring in the City Night," inspired by the shared lounge space on the 2nd floor of the hotel. It expresses the delicacy of textiles and layers of time, and the splendor residing in tranquility, through layers of materials and colors. Some works also use antique Kiri-dansu (paulownia chests) as frames, showcasing an expression that fully utilizes the materials. During the exhibition period, you can view the works in a unique spatial presentation that utilizes the entire hotel lounge.
