The Global Health Innovative Technology Fund (GHIT Fund) and the Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their partnership, with the aim of creating opportunities for co-funding research and development (R&D) targeting malaria, tuberculosis, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), and diseases with pandemic potential.

The GHIT Fund invests*1 (grants) in R&D for treatments, vaccines, and diagnostics for infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) that threaten the health of low- and middle-income countries. Since its establishment in 2013, it has supported over 140 projects with cumulative investments exceeding 40 billion JPY, promoting R&D and product development in the global health sector. TSRI, on the other hand, is a government agency under Thailand's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. It is responsible for formulating national plans and policies for science, research, and innovation (SRI) in Thailand and promoting research and innovation by allocating SRI budgets (Thailand RISE Fund) to government agencies, universities, research institutions, and other organizations in line with national strategies.

By strengthening the partnership between the two organizations, TSRI will expand opportunities for additional financial support to research institutions in Thailand, including universities, laboratories, and companies invested in by the GHIT Fund, as well as domestic and international R&D partners, including Japan, conducting R&D in Thailand. Thailand has world-leading research institutions and a long track record in the field of parasitic and infectious disease research, including malaria and neglected tropical diseases. This collaboration is not merely about providing funding; by bringing together expertise from both countries, it is expected to accelerate and advance R&D, contributing to solving global challenges. The areas of cooperation are as follows:

**Key Areas of Cooperation through Strengthened Partnership**

1) To create opportunities for co-funding R&D projects in Thailand or conducted by Thai research institutions, aimed at promoting the product development of treatments, vaccines, and diagnostics for infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

2) To revitalize research, technological innovation in Thailand and Japan, and further promote R&D in the field of infectious diseases such as neglected tropical diseases.

3) To promote the sharing of expertise and knowledge regarding infectious diseases such as neglected tropical diseases through workshops and personnel exchanges.

The GHIT Fund will continue to expand and strengthen partnerships as a bridge between Japanese and overseas pharmaceutical companies, universities, and research institutions, promoting product development for malaria, tuberculosis, and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
