'Starry Sky on a Rainy Day'
To be held in Minami-Aoyama in August 2026. Official website launched on March 31, 2026.
An art project and exhibition, 'Starry Sky on a Rainy Day,' featuring nine students from the Oil Painting Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, and Maki Hashimoto of the girl group "Rain Tree," will be held from August 18 (Tuesday), 2026, at Gallery Blue 3143 in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo.
With the launch of this project, the official exhibition website was opened on March 31, 2026.
■ Exhibition Concept: The 'Gaze' Transcends Boundaries
This exhibition is a stage for 10 artists (creators) who have continued to express themselves, holding a hopeful gaze towards an unseen future, much like believing in a starry sky beyond thick clouds.
"Idol" and "artist." What these two standing in different domains have in common is a deep relationship with their fandom (supporters), where they are "discovered and supported by someone." This exhibition focuses on the "gaze" held by the creators, showcasing a collection of paintings by 10 artists, including Maki Hashimoto, each projecting their unique perspective. Maki Hashimoto, who sublimates her identity as an idol into the form of painting, and the Geidai students, who incorporate elements of "fandom"—represented by idol production—into their own expressions. This is an experimental attempt to transcend the boundaries of creators and build new relationships with viewers and fans.
■ Narrative Immersive Experience: Statements Spun by Voice
Inside the venue, there are plans to introduce (※) audio commentary where Maki Hashimoto will read texts (artwork explanation texts) related to the gaze, written by each participating artist. By scanning the QR code accompanying each artwork with their smartphone, visitors will experience a resonance between the visual expression of painting and the narrative provided by Hashimoto's "voice." This offers a personal experience, as if the background and stories of each artist are being whispered into their ears, attempting a dialogue that crosses the boundaries between artist and viewer.
(※The content and format of the audio commentary are subject to change without notice.)
■ Maki Hashimoto (Rain Tree) Comment
"As an idol, I have always thought about 'reaching someone.' I believe it's an act of prayer, seemingly different from creating art, but actually very similar.
Even though artists and idols appear to be in different positions, both only 'take shape when touched by someone's gaze.'
Holding onto that truth, I approached this project as an artist myself.
Like a 'Starry Sky on a Rainy Day,' I hope the feeling of believing in what lies beyond thick clouds will gently reach someone's heart through this exhibition."
