Jumonji Junior & Senior High School will hold a special inquiry program, 'My Core through Gastronomy,' as part of its 'Integrated Inquiry Time (J-Lab.)' in the Self-Expression Course. We welcome culinary researcher Yoshiharu Doi, who also serves as Vice President of Jumonji University, as the instructor.
While active as a culinary researcher, Mr. Doi has also been continuously involved in educational programs for middle and high school students at the 'LEARN Individually Optimal Learning Research Lab' at the University of Tokyo's Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology. He has been researching how students can think through their own senses using 'food,' 'lifestyle,' and 'family' as entry points.
In this special class, students will not simply learn cooking as a technical skill. Instead, they will engage in inquiry-based learning aimed at nurturing their own judgment criteria (Core)—thinking about how they want to live and what they value in their choices—by looking back at 'eating' and 'living.'
1. Program Name 'My Core through Gastronomy'
2. Target High school Self-Expression Course students (1st and 2nd year, conducted during Integrated Inquiry class)
3. Instructor Yoshiharu Doi - Culinary Researcher - Vice President, Jumonji University - Guest Senior Researcher, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo
4. Program Overview This is an inquiry-based learning program that questions students about their 'way of life' while using 'food' in daily life as a subject.
In this class, we treat cooking not as learning cooking techniques, but as an opportunity to rethink 'eating' and 'living.' Through familiar experiences and observations related to food—nature, physical sensations, daily life, and relationships with people—students will feel, judge, and articulate for themselves. The goal is to cultivate their own judgment criteria (Core), such as 'how do I want to live?' and 'what do I value when making choices?'
