The Potential of Kampo Felt Overseas

This year marks our fifth participation in 'April Dream'.

Until now, we have shared our dreams by imagining what is achievable or what has already come true.

However, this time, being the fifth milestone, we decided to think outside the box. When we reconsidered what our ideal truly is, the dream of "sharing the goodness of Kampo with people worldwide" emerged.

The catalyst for this dream was an experience in a certain country I visited last year. Although that country is in Asia, like Japan, the philosophy of Kampo was hardly rooted there. On the other hand, spices, herbs, and fruits that could serve as raw materials for Kampo medicine were abundant, and many were organically grown. I thought how wonderful it would be if these could be utilized in Kampo to benefit the lives of people in that country.

Kampo is said to have been introduced to Japan around the 5th or 6th century. Since then, it has developed to suit Japan's climate, weather, and the constitution of Japanese people, becoming our country's traditional medicine. Today, various Kampo medicines are prescribed in hospitals, and remedies like 'Kakkonto' can be easily obtained at drugstores. Furthermore, the health maintenance methods of Oriental medicine have spread widely through books and social media, becoming deeply rooted in daily life.

The Wisdom of Kampo to the World

Just as it spread from China to Japan, we now wish to spread it from Japan to countries where Kampo has not yet taken root. And we sincerely hope that many people around the world will become healthier through Kampo. It may seem like an ambitious dream, but we truly wish for it.

As a first step, language study is necessary, so we plan to gradually start learning this year. Also, our store has published two books, 'Kampo Life for HSPs' and 'Kampo Self-Care to Support HSPs.' It is a big dream that these will eventually be translated and read by people in many countries.

While there are still many things we can't yet envision, we will steadily move forward, even if little by little, while imagining the day when people worldwide can become healthy through Kampo. With this dream in our hearts, we will continue our efforts.

About Our Store

We are 'Kampo Counseling Gajumaru,' a Kampo pharmacy located in Myorenji, Yokohama.

We provide counseling for physical and mental concerns with a two-person system: a wife who deeply loves Kampo and a husband who has consulted with many employees as a company's HR manager. During counseling, we clearly explain the basics of Kampo and body types, and propose health maintenance methods and stress coping strategies. We offer online consultations not only in the Tokyo metropolitan area but also nationwide.

Furthermore, our store is one of the few Kampo pharmacies in Japan that can cater to Highly Sensitive Persons (HSP). We have published two books on "HSP and Kampo": 'Kampo Life for HSPs: Protecting Your Highly Sensitive and Delicate Self' (Parade Books) and 'Kampo Self-Care to Support HSPs: Expert Tips for Seasonal Concerns' (Mates Publishing).
