Futaba Corporation (Headquarters: Mobara City, Chiba Prefecture, hereinafter referred to as "the Company") launched the "Cassette-Type Resin Test Mold" on April 1, 2026, which realizes efficient setup changes in injection molding.
Cassette-Type Resin Test Mold
【Background of Development】
In recent years, the manufacturing industry has seen an increasing demand for quality verification of plastic materials, driven by the expanded use of recycled materials for carbon neutrality and the diversification of supply chains.
This has led to an increase in the frequency of molding test pieces compliant with various standards such as JIS, but the challenge has been the significant cost and man-hours required for manufacturing and replacing entire mold sets.
The Company has newly developed the "Cassette-Type Resin Test Mold" by integrating its long-cultivated test piece mold manufacturing technology and in-mold sensing technology, enabling more efficient and low-cost molding of diverse test pieces. Standardization has been achieved based on customer requests accumulated over the years.
【Features】
Efficient Setup through "Cassette System"
The Cassette-Type Resin Test Mold adopts a structure that allows easy replacement of only the fixed-side and movable-side cassette-type inserts (hereinafter referred to as "inserts") while the mold holder remains attached to the injection molding machine. This eliminates the need to replace the entire mold set for each test piece, significantly reducing setup time. Furthermore, by simply preparing inserts, it can accommodate a wide variety of test pieces, not only reducing conventional mold manufacturing costs but also greatly contributing to space-saving for mold storage.
Extensive Lineup Supporting Diverse Test Pieces
The inserts come in a standard lineup of 12 types, including those compliant with standards such as JIS and UL 94 (flame retardancy evaluation), as well as those for spiral flow (fluidity evaluation). Furthermore, we flexibly accommodate custom specifications tailored to customer evaluation objectives, such as gate shape/position, draft angle, shrinkage rate, gas vent, and sensor position.
・Standard Insert Lineup
Integration of Our "In-Mold Sensors" is Possible
The Cassette-Type Resin Test Mold can be equipped with our "in-mold sensors" depending on the purpose and application. By utilizing in-mold sensors, accurate measurements of in-mold pressure, resin temperature, mold surface temperature, etc., can be taken, enabling molding process monitoring and traceability management of test pieces. Additionally, the in-mold sensors are designed to be mounted on the fixed-side insert, allowing the measurement environment to be maintained even when the movable-side insert is replaced with a different type.
*In some cases, in-mold sensors may not be applicable depending on the combination of fixed-side and movable-side inserts.
