Furuno Systems Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sumida-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Satoshi Nakatani; an affiliate of Furuno Electric Co., Ltd.), a manufacturer of commercial wireless equipment, announced that Niigata University of Health and Welfare (Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture), a school corporation of Niigata Sogo Gakuen, has adopted its commercial wireless LAN access points "ACERA" and wireless network management system "UNIFAS" for the development of its campus network. With the introduction of ACERA, a communication infrastructure has been established that allows comfortable connectivity anywhere on campus, and UNIFAS has enabled a system for stable management of the vast network.

Background of ACERA Introduction Niigata University of Health and Welfare has been gradually improving its campus Wi-Fi since 2008. Due to the increase in the number of students resulting from new building construction and the establishment of new faculties and departments, problems such as "delays during high-volume connections," "communication disconnections," and "poor communication due to access concentration during online lectures" became apparent. Particularly with the spread of online lectures, there was a demand for a wireless network reconstruction that would not interrupt learning. To solve these challenges, Furuno Systems' wireless LAN access points (hereinafter APs) "ACERA 1310" and "ACERA 1320" were adopted as the network infrastructure for the entire campus.

By installing them in lecture halls, study spaces, corridors, and student cafeterias, comfortable Wi-Fi use became possible anywhere on the vast campus, which boasts an area equivalent to five Tokyo Domes.

Furthermore, a network environment that does not disconnect even with multiple simultaneous connections was achieved, improving the quality of online lectures. The robust AP wireless communication infrastructure, which supports the expectation of "always being connected," supports the learning and research of students who are pioneering the future fields of medicine, health, welfare, and sports.

Burden Reduction through Centralized Management by UNIFAS Advanced monitoring and management are indispensable for stable operation of the campus network. Niigata University of Health and Welfare has a limited number of personnel engaged in network management, and the conventional system placed an excessive burden on administrators. With the introduction of the on-premise version of the wireless network management system "UNIFAS," centralized management of numerous APs and various terminal connection statuses installed across the vast campus has been achieved. Operating settings for changing channels and strengths can be easily done from the management screen, and automatic night updates are possible with the schedule function. By eliminating the need for constant monitoring, the burden of manual update work has been reduced, and operation with a limited number of administrators has become smooth.
