■ Background of Development
Since its establishment in 2016, FUMIKODA has provided bags that combine ease of use and design for business professionals. Responding to the voices of women who want to "carry their smartphones hands-free" and "use items that are as environmentally friendly as possible," FUMIKODA planned a mini-sized shoulder bag that allows them to carry their smartphones elegantly.

By bringing together the technologies of Japan's proud material manufacturers and trading companies, FUMIKODA adopted new materials that contribute to solving the marine plastic problem, creating an unprecedented new product.

■ The "troublemaker" of the sea became a bag.
Fishing nets and gear account for approximately 60% of the weight of marine plastic waste washed ashore on Japan's coasts, requiring urgent reduction and countermeasures.

*Ministry of the Environment "FY2022 Survey Data on Composition of Washed-Ashore Waste" (March 2024)

To address this issue, two types of marine waste-derived materials were developed: recycled fishing net nylon "Ocean Current®" and artificial leather "Ocean V leather" recycled from fishing floats.

This project was realized through collaboration with partner companies of the Alliance for the Blue, a general incorporated association, including Daido Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Morito Apparel Co., Ltd., and Rebirth Corporation.

FUMIKODA adopted these two recycled materials and completed the smartphone pouch "VENUS" with skilled Japanese craftsmen.

It is a product that embodies both the solution to marine problems and an elegant daily life.

A portion of the sales of "VENUS" will be returned to marine conservation activities, including seagrass bed regeneration, through the Alliance for the Blue.
