[Fukuoka University] May 21st is the Founding Anniversary

The history of Fukuoka University began with the founding of the Fukuoka Higher Commercial School in 1934 (Showa 9). At that time, while schools such as Kyushu Imperial University, Fukuoka Higher School, Kyushu Dental College, Fukuoka Women's College, and Fukuoka Law School existed in Fukuoka Prefecture, no higher commercial school had been established.

Under these circumstances, a movement to establish a higher commercial school in Fukuoka arose. On March 13 of the same year, an office for preparations to open the school was established at the Kyushu Electric Technical School (Karimachi, Fukuoka City; now the Daimyo area) by founders including Aitaro Ishibashi (who later became the first Board Chairman) and Umetaro Mizoguchi (who later became the second Board Chairman). On April 26 of the same year, the establishment of the Fukuoka Higher Commercial School was officially approved, finally realizing the establishment of a higher commercial school in the commercial hub of Fukuoka.

The first entrance ceremony was held on May 21 of the same year, which is the origin of the university's founding anniversary. The Kyushu Electric Technical School, where the preparation office was located, and the Eisuugakkan school located across the street were used as temporary school buildings. Classes in the temporary buildings continued for about a year, and on April 10 of the following year, 1935, the school moved to its current campus location in Nanakuma.
