Fuji Yakuhin Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture; President and CEO: Masayuki Takayanagi; hereinafter referred to as "Fuji Yakuhin"), a diversified pharmaceutical company engaged in everything from drug development to manufacturing and sales, signed a comprehensive partnership agreement with Kainan City, Wakayama Prefecture on July 2, 2026 (Thu).

Through this agreement, Fuji Yakuhin will collaborate with Kainan City to focus on the following four areas, primarily through its "haichi-yaku" (home-delivery medicine) sales service: disaster preparedness and response, promotion of citizen health, and monitoring of the elderly and other vulnerable individuals. The aim is to contribute to the improvement of citizen welfare and regional revitalization. A signing ceremony for the agreement was held in Kainan City on the same day.

Four Areas of the Partnership Agreement and Main Initiatives

(1) Projects related to disaster preparedness and response: The "haichi-yaku" service provides the peace of mind of having medicine readily available. Therefore, as a measure against potential disasters, we will promote the installation of "haichi-yaku" in municipal facilities and other locations during normal times, and provide these free of charge as emergency disaster kits during disasters (*1). Furthermore, if evacuation centers are established for medium to long-term periods, we will provide medicines free of charge to these centers upon request from Kainan City. In addition, we will engage in disaster preparedness and response information dissemination by participating in fire drills and disaster-related events, and by utilizing the "kaisho" (regular sales visits) system where sales representatives regularly visit customers who subscribe to "haichi-yaku" to distribute disaster preparedness materials.

(2) Projects for promoting citizen health: Sales representatives for "haichi-yaku" are generally qualified as registered sellers (*2) as stipulated by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Leveraging this specialized knowledge, sales representatives will provide information on the appropriate use of OTC drugs, distribute flyers on health information, and conduct awareness campaigns on lifestyle diseases and seasonal illness prevention during their regular visits. We will also support citizen health promotion by displaying health awareness posters and distributing flyers and booklets at our drugstores, as well as by holding health events conducted by pharmacists and registered dietitians at our drugstores.

(3) Projects for monitoring the elderly and other vulnerable individuals: When sales representatives visit homes with elderly residents, they will proactively engage in conversation and cooperate in sharing information with Kainan City and relevant organizations if they discover any changes or abnormalities. Furthermore, based on the city's guidelines, we will cooperate in monitoring the elderly by assisting in the search for individuals who have wandered off during our daily sales activities.

(4) Other projects necessary to achieve the objectives: In addition to the above, we will collaborate and work on matters that Kainan City and Fuji Yakuhin deem necessary, such as cooperation in creating a livable town.

(*1) Customers who have subscribed to "haichi-yaku" have always received them free of charge in the event of a disaster.

(*2) A registered seller is a specialized qualification required for selling general-use medicines (OTC drugs). They possess expert knowledge of pharmaceuticals and can sell general-use medicines, excluding Class 1 prescription drugs which can only be sold by pharmacists.

Background of the Agreement

Kainan City is working to create a town where everyone wants to live and continue living, under the four policy goals set forth in the "4th Kainan City Comprehensive Plan," in pursuit of its vision for an ideal town: "A Vibrant, Friendly, and Secure Town, Kainan." One of these policy goals, "A Town that Protects Safe and Secure Living," identifies challenges such as preparing for disaster risks like major earthquakes and heavy rains, and improving citizens' health awareness and enhancing measures for insurance, medical care, and welfare to support the lives of the elderly and others, in the context of a declining birthrate and aging population (*4).

On the other hand, Fuji Yakuhin, under its slogan "Deliver Health. Continue Health.," has made it its mission to continuously support healthy lives. Through its "haichi-yaku" sales, operation of drugstores and dispensing pharmacies, and pharmaceutical development and manufacturing, the company strives to provide high-quality services that are close to the lives of local residents. In particular, approximately 2,000 households and businesses in Kainan City currently use our "haichi-yaku" service.

In this context, Fuji Yakuhin, in addition to being involved in the lives of many Kainan citizens through its "haichi-yaku" sales business, believes that its sales style of visiting customers one by one can be of assistance to Kainan City's initiatives, leading to the conclusion of this partnership agreement. This is the 44th partnership agreement with a local government.

Fuji Yakuhin aims to contribute to the creation of a town where everyone can live with peace of mind by collaborating with Kainan City to strengthen the city's disaster preparedness system, promote health initiatives, and support monitoring activities for the elderly and other vulnerable individuals.
