■ Exhibitor Profile

Herbie Yamaguchi (ハービー・やまぐち)

Born in Tokyo in 1950. Joined the photography club in his second year of junior high school. After graduating university, he moved to London at age 23 and lived there for 10 years, working as an actor in a theater company while pursuing photography. Amidst the punk rock movement of the time, his portraits of musicians gained high acclaim. Having overcome a history of childhood illness, he has made "hope for life" his theme and continues to photograph people. Beyond photography, he is known for his essays, his role as a radio personality, providing lyrics to guitarist Tomoyasu Hotei, and his appearance on the TV program "Tetsuko no Heya," earning him support from a wide range of age groups. He received the Japan Society of Photography Award (Photographer Award) in 2011. He has served as a visiting professor at Osaka University of Arts and Kyushu Sangyo University, and is currently the principal of the Japan Photography Arts College. His given name "Herbie" is derived from his admiration for jazz flutist Herbie Mann.

It is a facility where a wide range of people can enjoy themselves, featuring the Fujifilm Photo Salon which exhibits high-quality photographs across various genres, the Photo History Museum where one can learn about the history of photography and cameras, a corner for experiencing the latest Fujifilm products, and a shop selling skincare and supplement products. It is open year-round (excluding year-end and New Year holidays) and admission is free.

Fujifilm Square's activities received the Excellence Award - Preservation of Photographic Culture and Nurturing of Young Photographers - at the 2025 Mecenat Awards organized by the Public Interest Incorporated Foundation for Corporate Support.
