Frescoball, a beach sport originating in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1945. Since the establishment of JFBA in 2013, its unique competitive nature, "a scoring competition where players cooperate to continue rallies," has captivated many frescoball players across Japan.

In 2022, the annual series name for determining Japan's representatives was changed from "Frescoball Champion Race" to "FRESCOBALL JAPAN TOUR". Activities have continued with the aim of "contributing to the creation of related populations in regions, sports promotion, and sports tourism through official competitions," expanding competition venues to areas such as Iwate Prefecture, Okinawa Prefecture, Okayama Prefecture, Kagawa Prefecture, and Fukuoka Prefecture. These efforts have led to the birth of Japan's unique frescoball culture, "enjoying frescoball all year round as if traveling." Recently, the first Awajishima tournament was held, attracting many athletes who also enjoyed sightseeing on the island.

Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture, known as the "sacred land of the west," hosts the Japan Championship annually. The "contrast with the pine forest" of Tsuda no Matsubara is unique to Japan.

Fukuma Coast in Fukuoka, known as the "Shonan of Kyushu," will host for the first time in 2025. Odaiba, an urban beach, will be the stage for a historic match.

Therefore, JFBA has redefined the essential charm of frescoball as a "communication design sport" while also recognizing its compatibility with "sports tourism" as a unique characteristic of frescoball. We are now promoting "There is a town I want to visit. There is a rally I want to play. Travel and Communication Design Sport" as a tagline embodying the current frescoball culture, and will strengthen promotional activities as a sport highly compatible with "sports tourism."

■ "Travel and Communication Design Sport" What is Frescoball?
Frescoball is a beach sport originating in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was invented on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro in 1945 and is now popular on beaches around the world. The biggest feature of frescoball is that two players facing each other do not compete, but rather cooperate to continue rallies, making it a scoring competition. The game time is 5 minutes, and matches are played maintaining a distance of 7 meters. It is also called a "sport of consideration" due to the cooperative nature of continuing rallies. JFBA reached a basic agreement in October 2025 with the Rio Frescoball Federation (FEFERJ) to establish the world's first international organization 'UAFI' for the unification of international rules. In Japan, based on the unique Japanese frescoball culture of "enjoying frescoball all year round as if traveling," we are strengthening promotional activities as a sport highly compatible with sports tourism. Currently, 29 certified regional clubs and 5 certified student organizations are registered.
