JFBA Certified Local Club 'Hikage DE Frescobol Okinawa' Hosting 'Okinawa Spring Frescobol Festival' Every Saturday at Shintoshin Park, Naha until April 11!

The Japan Frescobol Association (President: Kenji Kuboshima, hereafter "JFBA"), which promotes the "communication design sport" Frescobol in Japan, is pleased to announce that its certified local club "Hikage DE Frescobol Okinawa" will host the "Okinawa Spring Frescobol Festival" every Saturday until April 11 at Shintoshin Park in Naha City.

"Hikage DE Frescobol Okinawa" typically operates in the shade of beaches or indoors, primarily in Naha and Urasoe, catering to Okinawa residents who prefer to avoid strong sunlight and sunburns. They have decided on an "outdoor hosting" specifically for the spring season, when the cold has eased and the sunlight is not too intense. This series of activities is titled the "Okinawa Spring Frescobol Festival," featuring experience sessions at Shintoshin Park in Naha City.

Representative Isaku Kodera commented: "While Frescobol is still unfamiliar to many in Okinawa, its essence—forming a pair, aiming for spots where your partner can easily hit back, chasing down every missed shot, and building a game together—is the very spirit of 'Yuimaru' (mutual help), which is the foundation of Okinawan culture. I am confident everyone will enjoy it."

The club provides rackets and balls. Backnets are also set up, so even those who are not confident in their athletic abilities can feel free to try a rally. Participation is free, and walk-ins are welcome. Please come as you are in comfortable clothing. The "Okinawa Spring Frescobol Festival" runs every Saturday from March 21 to April 11, approximately from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Participants can join or leave at any time. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Miyagi Community Center basement plaza or the main hall in Miyagi, Urasoe City.

■ What is the "Communication Design Sport" Frescobol?
Frescobol is a beach sport originating from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was devised at Copacabana Beach in 1945 and is now enjoyed on beaches worldwide. The most unique feature of Frescobol is that it is a scored competition where two players face each other not to compete, but to cooperate and maintain a rally. Matches last 5 minutes and are played at a distance of 7 meters. Because players work together to sustain the rally, it is often called the "sport of consideration." In October 2025, JFBA reached a basic agreement with the Rio Frescobol Federation (FEFERJ) to establish the world's first international organization, "UAFI," aimed at unifying international rules. Efforts are underway to unite the global Frescobol community. Domestically, there are 29 certified local clubs and 6 certified student organizations registered.
