Yutaka Mizutani, who has shown multi-faceted success as an actor, film director, and musician, will release his first new song in 10 years, "Omoi Hateru Made," from For Life Music, marking his return to the label after 28 years.

Since his musical debut on July 10, 1977, with "Harbor Light," he released a string of hits, including "Omotesando Nanpa Street" in '78 and the massive hit "California Connection" in '79, the theme for the NTV drama "Netchu Jidai: Keiji-hen." However, he left For Life Music after the release of "Aishiteru to Itte Kure" in 1988.

After 28 years, it has been decided that he will release a new song from his former label.

"Omoi Hateru Made" is Mizutani's fourth self-written and composed song, following 1977's "Kokoro no Mama ni," 1983's "Nante Yasashii Jidai" (theme for the TV drama "Jiken Kisha Chabo"), and 2009's "Silhouette." It is a stylish and energetic piece.

Adding flair to this first work in 10 years are renowned participating musicians: Jun Abe, current keyboardist of Casiopea, who participated on bass; cellist and guitarist Harutoshi Ito (guitar); one of Japan's leading female percussionists, Kaori Ono; and an impressive horn section led by saxophonist Naoya Takemura, featuring Yochi Masago, So Gushiken, and Nobuhide Handa.

The arrangement is by Yoshiki Yamamoto, who served as music director for Mizutani's films "Taiyo to Bolero" and "Piccola felicità," and the mixing engineer is Koji Morimoto. They have masterfully captured the world Mizutani wished to express, creating a powerful and danceable work that strongly signals a new start for Yutaka Mizutani as an artist.

This song was born from a piece originally created as an insert song for the movie "Piccola felicità ~Small Happiness~," a film in which Yutaka Mizutani himself takes on five roles: planning, directing, screenwriting, producing, and starring.

Set to be released on April 24, "Piccola felicità" (Italian for "small happiness") unfolds four stories of people at life's crossroads. This is Mizutani's fourth directorial work, and he has set the theme of "ART," aiming for "every shot to be as beautiful as a painting you'd want to hang on your wall."

The new song will soon be premiered on the NHK-BS and BSP4K program "Futari Fes." This special program features a one-night-only collaboration between two artists from the entertainment world. This time, Mizutani will co-star with Ryudo Uzaki, their first joint performance since a concert tour 10 years ago. The two, one an actor and director, the other a musician and songwriter, will discuss their history, going back to the late 1970s when the duo of Aki Yoko & Ryudo Uzaki wrote an entire album for Mizutani, and reflect on their paths over the nearly 50 years since.

The broadcast is scheduled for NHK-BS on Sunday, March 29, from 6:45 PM to 7:29 PM, and on BSP4K on Friday, April 3, from 7:30 PM to 8:14 PM.

Additionally, the release of his latest book, tentatively titled "YUTAKA MIZUTANI," has also been decided.
