Through this initiative, designs reflecting the unique charm of 737 cats available at Cat Café MOFF locations across Japan will be combined with 30 different product types—including T-shirts and tote bags—enabling the launch of over 22,000 distinct original merchandise items. Focus is responsible for building the e-commerce site, creating designs, operating the site, producing goods, and handling payments.

Turning the Unique Appeal of 737 Cats into Products

This project features dedicated profile pages for each of the 737 cats across MOFF’s nationwide locations, offering products that reflect the individual personality of every cat. While typical merchandise projects often focus on popular characters or brands as themes, this initiative places every single cat at the center as the main character.

By incorporating the cats’ various charming expressions—such as sleepy looks, alert gazes, or playful moments—the goal is to let customers feel as though they are still “together” with their favorite cats, even when they are away from the physical cafes.

Creating New Experiences Through Original Goods

Focus has previously used its original apparel service, 'CLAT-JAPAN,' to enrich shared experiences such as school festivals, sports events, local community gatherings, and shop uniforms. This new project extends that value beyond teams and groups, now addressing individuals’ personal feelings of affection and longing.

MOFF already has passionate fans who support individual cats. By transforming the time and memories spent at MOFF cafes into tangible merchandise, the goal is to let customers maintain a close connection with their favorite cats, even outside the cafes.

A New Production System Supporting 22,000 Product Variants

The core challenge of this project was not simply creating a large volume of designs, but thoughtfully expressing the unique charm of each cat for their dedicated fans.

To achieve this, photos of all cats across 31 locations were taken, and each cat’s distinctive features were analyzed and incorporated into the designs. Given the scale of producing merchandise for 737 cats, traditional production workflows were insufficient. Therefore, Focus rebuilt its entire production system by combining its long-established design expertise with cutting-edge generative AI technology. This enabled the simultaneous creation of numerous individualized designs while maintaining quality, resulting in over 22,000 product combinations across 30 items—including T-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, and blankets.

A Collaborative Venture Leveraging In-House Capabilities

Through 'CLAT-JAPAN,' Focus has accumulated extensive expertise in e-commerce operations, design creation, and product manufacturing. In this project, Focus handles all aspects—from website development and product planning to design, sales operations, and production—applying its systems and capabilities to MOFF’s compelling content.

This marks a new endeavor for Focus, as it takes full responsibility for planning through sales operations using content owned by another company. Both companies are collaborating by leveraging their respective strengths.

Future Outlook

The plan is to expand the product lineup from 30 to 100 items by the end of the year. Additionally, the company is considering introducing a system that allows customers to select their favorite expressions of their beloved cats to create one-of-a-kind custom items. Beyond the cats living in 'Cat Café MOFF,' the project aims to expand to include more animal species, enhancing customers’ ability to feel close to their 'favorite' animals.

This initiative has revealed new potential in Focus’s accumulated expertise and production systems. Moving forward, Focus will continue to grow the business together with MOFF, expanding its product and service offerings and pursuing new value creation.
