Akindo Sushiro Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Suita, Osaka; President: Kohei Nii) held tasting events for the collaboration products from the "Project to Learn About and Protect the Tohoku Sea for Future Generations," which have been on sale since Wednesday, March 25, at three locations in the sales areas of Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures.

Sushiro operates under the mission: "To fill your stomach with delicious sushi, and your heart with happiness." Beyond simply providing sushi, we want children to discover the joy of food through our products and to be a brand that local communities feel close to. This desire led to our joint development project with the "Umi to Nippon Project" (The Ocean and Japan Project), which aims to teach children the importance of the sea.

The "Project to Learn About and Protect the Tohoku Sea for Future Generations" is an initiative where elementary school students from the three Tohoku prefectures (Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima) that share the Sanriku coast learn about, experience, and communicate the challenges facing the region, such as abnormal rises in seawater temperatures. In the "experience" and "communicate" aspects of this project, Sushiro developed original products using locally caught fish based on ideas from local elementary school students, which have been on sale in each prefecture since March 25.

Prior to the launch, we held tasting events on March 8 (Sun), 12 (Thu), and 25 (Wed), inviting the participating elementary school students and project stakeholders. These collaboration products were born from ideas submitted by students as summer vacation assignments; Sushiro's product development team created prototypes based on the students' concepts and illustrations. At the tasting events, we introduced the project's progress and the collaboration products before the students sampled them. In Iwate, we were joined by a Miyako cod producer, and in Miyagi, by a bonito processor from Kesennuma, who shared insights about their respective catches. The students enjoyed the products, with many exclaiming, "It's delicious!" and asking for seconds.

Sushiro remains committed to initiatives that help people discover the joy of food through sushi and foster a sense of closeness with local communities.
