Fukushima Firebonds has formulated the regional vision "Koriyama Town Development Vision Sketch" for the Koriyama City and Kaiseizan area, and today reported the vision sketch directly to the Mayor of Koriyama City during a courtesy visit, marking its official announcement.
About This Initiative
This project began when it was selected for the "Sports x Community Problem-Solving Town Development Model Project" by the B.League and The Nippon Foundation. For one year, we seriously questioned "How can a sports club be involved in community development?" using our home town, Koriyama, as the field.
Through multiple dialogues and workshops with Koriyama City, we organized the many community issues and possibilities that emerged. This vision sketch expresses the direction of town development through words and images. The initiative was considered with the support of Humanitas Co., Ltd. (Representative Director: Keita Nakajima), which specializes in town development through sports. Please note that this vision sketch was independently formulated by the Firebonds and does not represent specific facility development plans or administrative plans.
What is 'BONDS KORIYAMA FUTURE VISION'?
The central vision is "Creating a town where possibilities are continuously born for the next generation." This sketch is not a blueprint for urban planning or facility development, but the future vision of regional activities drawn by the Firebonds. It is a community model depicting the "movements of people, encounters, and challenges" that can actually occur in the Koriyama City and Kaiseizan area, presented as a single image. It is a declaration of intent for the future, drawn together by the Firebonds and the people of the region.
The sketch depicts four visions and the community development activities that the Firebonds aim to undertake from now on.
Intergenerational Exchange - Creating a Daily Hub Open 365 Days a Year
Centered around sports communities (Spo-Commu), we aim for Kaiseizan where exchange across generations, from children to the elderly, can occur. Through initiatives like monthly open days, we foster "places people want to return to" in daily life, where people from the community naturally gather and engage in activities like running and health programs.
Experiences that Enrich Life - Creating Moving Experiences Through Sports, Health, and Learning
We will create diverse opportunities such as children participating in challenge programs, work experience with athletes, and sports experiences for parents and children. While creating an environment that is "easy to come to and participate in" through mechanisms like shuttle buses and park & walks, we will accumulate moving experiences that stem from "trying it" with sports as the entry point.
Attachment to Koriyama - Developing Citizen-Led Sustainable Activities
After watching the Firebonds in Kaiseizan, explore Koriyama City by walking along Sakura-dori. Participate in the community as a volunteer and share its charm on social media. Away game visitors and tourists extend their trips to Koriyama, and new stores are born. By having each citizen play a leading role and continue to act, we aim to deepen their attachment to Koriyama and have the activities take root and become self-sustaining in the region.
Attractiveness of Koriyama and Kaiseizan - Building a Platform Where Various Insights Converge
Through regional collaboration meetings, Firebonds forums, consultations with local government, activities of young leaders, and knowledge sharing from cooking classes, we will create a place where wisdom and challenges from corporations, schools, welfare organizations, and government converge beyond their respective boundaries. While aiming for a place where advanced initiatives like autonomous driving demonstration experiments gather, we will disseminate the unique value of Koriyama and Kaiseizan nationwide.
Comment from Takeo Shiine, Mayor of Koriyama City
I am very pleased that Fukushima Firebonds has earnestly addressed town development in Koriyama and formulated the "BONDS KORIYAMA FUTURE VISION" as a project selected by the B.League and The Nippon Foundation.
During the formulation process, we had dialogues with the city, and I felt that the region's issues and possibilities were carefully reflected.
The vision sketch, depicting the Kaiseizan area as its center, is Fukushima Firebonds' declaration of future intent, and we expect it to serve as a hub for vitalizing the entire city of Koriyama through sports.
Our city will continue to support the challenges of Fukushima Firebonds and jointly build a "Koriyama that is chosen."
We sincerely thank everyone in Koriyama City for their significant support and cooperation in this project.
Comment from Sho Nishida, Representative Director of Fukushima Sports Entertainment Inc.
As Fukushima Sports Entertainment Inc., we have formulated the "BONDS KORIYAMA FUTURE VISION," reported it to the Mayor of Koriyama City, and made it public.
Fifteen years ago, when Fukushima Prefecture was hit by the earthquake, or 13 years ago when the Firebonds were born, I don't think we could have drawn a concrete image of "town development with the Firebonds," nor could we have gained genuine consensus.
The promotion of the Kaiseizan Gymnasium facility improvement project (arena renovation) by Koriyama City has allowed a large number of visitors from within and outside the prefecture to come to the Hōraiya Bonds Arena. On weekends when professional sports are held, over 10,000 people flow into the Kaiseizan area.
This momentum, in addition to the arena renovation, is also due to Koriyama City's strong will to shape the future town development through the large-scale renovation of the entire Kaiseizan Park area (PFI project). Furthermore, the circle of support from those who support and cheer for the Fukushima Firebonds has expanded, creating new flows of people and "demand" centered around the Kaiseizan area, which did not exist before.
When new demand arises, challenges and ideas for the future become apparent. Access issues such as traffic congestion and parking, the balance with citizen usage, the design of flow lines to guide the gathered people into the town, and planning to link sports content to regional development. Addressing these and translating them into concrete actions is what sports-centric town development itself is all about. We feel daily that the movement of people and their passion are the driving forces that change a region.
The vision formulated this time is intended to provide a story and connectivity to individual "point" actions related to town development, connect them as "lines," and further promote regional development as a "surface" by increasing collaborators. Without a vision, it becomes difficult to have a common understanding of what the current activities lead to, or to measure the achievement of actions. We strongly hope that many people will see this formulated vision and maximize the region's potential together.
For the formulation of this future vision, because simply drawing pictures out of self-satisfaction by the Firebonds would be just "pie in the sky," we incorporated ideas from the Koriyama City Cultural Sports and Tourism Department and the Sports Promotion Division, and deliberated with experienced experts. We sincerely thank those who cooperated.
This vision is not a perfect 100 points at this time. While walking with the people of the region, we will realize each item one by one, and continue this challenge from Kaiseizan to all of Fukushima, and then to the whole country, so that the Firebonds can be called "the core of regional cooperation" by as many people as possible.
We look forward to your continued support and encouragement for the Fukushima Firebonds.
