Felissimo's 'Ship Club,' one of the new club activities under Felissimo's 'Felissimo Club Activities,' which will soon celebrate its first anniversary since its founding on "Marine Day" in 2025, has launched web sales on July 1st for an original wine (full bottle, tax included price ¥5,500) in collaboration with the NPO ZERI JAPAN, in anticipation of "Ocean Month" in July, designated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and others. This special wine was co-produced by the sailing ship "BLUE OCEAN Miraihe" and Felissimo's 'Ship Club,' aiming to recreate the sake transported by "Kitamae-bune" (Note 1), the main artery of logistics in the Edo period, using modern wine. It is a special wine that actually arrived at Moji Port in Kitakyushu City from Kobe Port, a part of the west-bound route, and was then transported back to Kobe Port a week later. Twenty bottles of this rare wine, each with a certificate bearing the captain's handwritten signature detailing the date, route, and voyage, will be sold online. The original etichetta (label) depicting the sailing ship "BLUE OCEAN Miraihe" is eye-catching and a must-have for ship enthusiasts. The wine was brewed at Felissimo's 'f winery,' an urban winery located near the sea at the base of Kobe Port's Pier 1, where the sailing ship is berthed. It is a so-called Bordeaux blend, made with 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon from Kobe City, aiming to balance a "classic structure" with a "lustrous mouthfeel." It is a medium-bodied red wine that, with the rich fruitiness of Merlot and the crisp acidity and tannins of Cabernet, offers a sense of allure amidst its strength. By savoring a glass while reminiscing about the sake that traveled on the sailing ship, swayed by the sea breeze along the "Kitamae-bune" route, one can enjoy a rich time filled with historical romance. A portion of the wine sales will be used for the preservation and operation of the sailing ship "BLUE OCEAN Miraihe." The wine will also be available by the glass (tax included price ¥700) in limited quantities on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays starting July 20th (Mon, Holiday) at the cafe & bar stand area of Felissimo's 'f winery' (sales end when sold out).

(Note 1) This refers to the sea route that connected the ports along the Sea of Japan coast with the Kansai region (known as 'Ue-kata') during the Edo period, traveling westward. The ships that were active on this route are called "Kitamae-bune." Trade was conducted at each port of call. Goods from the Sea of Japan coast were transported to Kansai, and sake, salt, cotton, and other goods from Kansai were transported to the ports along the Sea of Japan coast, fostering active trade. Sake, including Japanese sake and shochu, was transported and gained popularity.

A certificate with the date, route, and captain's handwritten signature is attached to the bottle.

Kobe-produced f winery137: A refreshing sea breeze felt within its depth Brewed at the winery f winery <Ef Winery> with Kobe Port right in front, this is a golden ratio blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon from Kobe City, achieving both a "classic structure" and a "lustrous mouthfeel," a so-called Bordeaux blend. These two grape varieties are from old vines over 30 years old, which can be considered a very rare "old vine" status even within Japan. In the harsh environment of the intense heat in the summer of 2024, these old vines, with their deep root systems, were able to maintain their vitality and achieve adequate ripeness. The Merlot, grown in a warm climate, gently envelops the strong tannins of the Cabernet, adding a silky "body" and "brightness." The concentrated aroma of cassis and blackcurrant, refreshing herbs from organic farming, the rich fruitiness of Merlot, and the crisp acidity and tannins of Cabernet, in a 6:4 ratio, create a deep aftertaste that cannot be achieved with younger vines, offering a sense of allure amidst strength. It pairs well with meat dishes such as red meat steak, yakiniku, and roast beef. Kobe beef thinly sliced steak and teppanyaki are particularly recommended. Beef stew and red wine braised dishes are also good choices. For Japanese cuisine, try roasted root vegetables or grilled shiitake mushrooms. For snacks, hard cheeses like Mimolette or Comté, and dark chocolate with high cacao content are recommended.

◆ Sailing Ship "BLUE OCEAN Miraihe"

"Miraihe" is a sailing ship that operates alongside Japan's representative training ships "Nippon Maru" and "Kaiwo Maru." It is also the only sailing ship in Japan that civilians can board and operate. Through experiential activities such as sail training and marine environment learning, it aims to foster a closer connection with the sea and encourage behavioral changes by thinking about environmental issues as global citizens. Previously, we recreated "kudarizake" (sake shipped down from Edo to Osaka) in a modern style with an original wine, which was enjoyed by many at Yokohama Port after being transported from Kobe Port to Yokohama Port by the sailing ship "BLUE OCEAN Miraihe." <https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000004235.000012759.html> This time, we have realized an initiative to partially reproduce the route of the "Kitamae-bune" ships that once connected Kansai with the Sea of Japan coast, and we are able to offer this precious wine, transported by sailing ship, in limited quantities. Felissimo's 'Ship ClubTM' plans to convey the wonders of ships and enjoy their charm with everyone, through various activities such as product development and event planning in collaboration with ship owners. Information related to ships is shared on our official SNS under the hashtag "#フェリシモ船部" (Felissimo Ship Club), so please check it out. (Head of Felissimo 'Ship Club')

◆ Felissimo 'f winery [Ef Winery]'

A small-scale urban winery established within Felissimo's new headquarters, "Stage Felissimo," in the Shinkocho waterfront district of Kobe City. We obtained a fruit wine manufacturing license from the Kobe Tax Office on June 17, 2021, and began wine production. The "Stand" area opened on November 19th of the same year. Felissimo, which has previously imported and sold wine through mail order, is now producing its own wine. By sourcing good grapes from various regions at different times, we aim to create wines that are not constrained by land, climate, or weather, thereby challenging the possibilities of the wine business. The "Brewery" area, where a winemaker is always present, can produce up to approximately 30,000 750ml full bottles annually using a total of 9 tanks, including 7 stainless steel tanks and 2 resin tanks from Slovenia. In the "Stand" area, where visitors can see the brewery through glass, wine can be enjoyed with tastings and appetizers. We are also recruiting "Annual Partners" from individuals and companies who enjoy wine, by disseminating new wine culture and researching winemaking together.
