In our hope to prevent traffic accidents involving children in Fuchu and Chofu cities, we are donating original FC Tokyo "school backpack covers" to all new first-grade elementary school students. This is the first year we are donating to Fuchu City, while it is our second consecutive year donating to Chofu City. Click here for a look at last year's presentation ceremony in Chofu City.
The donation of these backpack covers is a project aimed at raising children's awareness of traffic safety and preventing traffic accidents through the use of the covers. This project was made possible with the support of Fuchu City, Chofu City, and our official partner, MIXI, Inc.
The design for the Fuchu City backpack covers features a cute illustration of the FC Tokyo team mascot, "Tokyo Dorompa," and Fuchu City's civic collaboration promotion characters, "Kyo-chan and Do-chan," energetically crossing a pedestrian walkway. The Chofu City backpack covers feature the same design as last year. We hope that many students will wear them and that they will contribute to the prevention of traffic accidents in the local community.
As this is the first year of the donation to Fuchu City, a presentation ceremony was held at Fuchu City Hall. Attendees included Mayor Takano, Deputy Mayors Komori and Tanaka from Fuchu City, and President Kawagishi and the team mascot, Tokyo Dorompa, from FC Tokyo.
Comment from Fuchu City Mayor Ritsuo Takano
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the donation of these school backpack covers, which feature the FC Tokyo team mascot 'Tokyo Dorompa' and our city's civic collaboration promotion characters, 'Kyo-chan and Do-chan.' New first-graders are at a particularly high risk of traffic accidents as they adjust to new group activities, learning environments, and unfamiliar routes to school. Therefore, initiatives to raise each child's awareness of traffic safety are extremely important. I expect that these donated backpack covers will be a great help in watching over the children's safe commute to and from school and will contribute significantly to the prevention of traffic accidents. I strongly hope that through these backpack covers featuring 'Tokyo Dorompa,' children will become more familiar with sports, including soccer, and that this will serve as an opportunity for them to feel the charm of our city as a 'Sports Town Fuchu'."
Comment from Shigeiya Kawagishi, President and Representative Director, Tokyo Football Club Co., Ltd.
"Following our initiative in Chofu City, we are now donating original school backpack covers to new first-graders in Fuchu City. We concluded a 'Collaboration Agreement on Regional Revitalization' with Fuchu City in January 2021, and one of the items for cooperation is 'matters related to the sound development and education of children.' We have previously distributed 'Ao-Aka Drills' (blue and red workbooks) to elementary schools in the city and conducted 'Smile Caravans.' As a new form of cooperation, we have decided to donate these backpack covers to raise awareness of traffic safety. I hope that these covers, designed with 'Tokyo Dorompa' and Fuchu City's 'Kyo-chan and Do-chan,' will serve as a charm that raises the children's awareness of traffic safety."
