### Background of Implementation The Course of Study set forth by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) emphasizes the cultivation of "zest for life" and "humanity," requiring schools to foster the ability to learn proactively and live within society while engaging with others (*2).
Kaisei Junior High School is a traditional institution founded in 1892, which will celebrate its 134th anniversary in 2026. The school has long practiced education that supports the personal growth of each student while valuing character formation based on Christian education. Under this policy, the school identified "The 7 Habits J®" as an educational program that can foster these abilities more systematically.
"The 7 Habits J®" is an educational program systematized for junior high, high school, and vocational students, based on the global bestseller "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" (by Dr. Stephen R. Covey). It has been introduced in approximately 100 schools across Japan, with over 360,000 students having participated to date.
The school decided to adopt the program, valuing its ability to concretely and practically foster a "zest for life" as an initiative to polish the foundation of a person from the early stage of junior high school. Starting in April 2026, it is scheduled to begin as a pillar of proactive education within the integrated studies curriculum for first-year junior high students.

### 1. School Features: A Traditional School Combining Academic and Athletic Excellence with an International Perspective Kaisei Junior High and High School is a traditional institution with a 134-year history as one of the leading Catholic combined junior and senior high schools in Nagasaki Prefecture. With the school motto "Love of God, Love of Humanity" at the core of its education, it has long practiced education that emphasizes character formation. Under the teaching of "Love your neighbor as yourself," the school aims for each student to look within themselves and grow into a person capable of making correct value judgments.
Furthermore, the school focuses on balancing academics and club activities, embodying the ideal of "Bunbu Ryodo" (the dual path of pen and sword), with baseball, archery, and tennis clubs participating in national tournaments.
In terms of higher education, the school has a strong track record of admissions to local national and public universities, as well as prestigious private universities. Additionally, international education is one of the school's features. It continuously conducts exchange programs with sister schools in Hawaii and partner schools in Europe and South Korea, providing opportunities to encounter diverse cultures and values. Through these initiatives, students develop the ability to broaden their perspectives while collaborating with others.
### 2. Educational Philosophy "Love of God, Love of Humanity" and the Realization of Human Potential Kaisei Junior High School sets "Learn for yourself, open the future together" as its school goal, aiming to cultivate human potential from the three perspectives of "humanity, sociality, and proactivity." However, a key theme has been how to concretize these strengths into daily actions and foster them continuously. "The 7 Habits J®" is a program that systematically demonstrates a way of being as a person through concrete thinking frameworks such as "choosing for yourself" and "thinking Win-Win." It has high affinity with the school's philosophy of "opening the future together" and is positioned as one of the pillars for concretely fostering human potential.
### 3. Comment from the Principal: Mr. Teruyuki Mizokami, Principal of Kaisei Junior High and High School "The school motto, 'Love of God, Love of Humanity,' which we uphold as the foundation of our education, means to respect oneself as a unique existence loved by God, and at the same time, to love one's neighbor as oneself. We have introduced 'The 7 Habits J®' as a bridge to connect these deep Christian values to concrete daily actions. The principles taught in 'The 7 Habits,' such as 'be proactive' and 'seek first to understand, then to be understood,' are precisely a modern approach to practicing the 'service to others' and 'sincere way of life' that our school has always valued. For students to believe in their own potential and grow as autonomous individuals is nothing less than making the 'talents' given by God shine to their fullest.
By learning universal human studies during the sensitive period of junior high school, students will cultivate the 'power to judge correctly and walk with courage' even when facing difficulties. Through this new learning, Kaisei Junior High School will do its utmost to foster leaders who can embody the 'love' indicated by our school motto in society. In this schoolhouse where prayer and learning coexist, I sincerely hope that students will elevate each other and step forward into a brilliant future."
### 4. Cultivation of Proactivity and Future Outlook At Kaisei Junior High School, the goal is for each student to grow to demonstrate proactivity, such as "choosing and acting for themselves." To achieve this, the school believes it is important to continuously provide learning opportunities that question how to live as a person, beyond just subject-based learning.
Through this initiative, the school expects that more teachers will be able to support student growth in areas outside of subjects, leading to an improvement in the school's overall educational capabilities. Moving forward, the school plans to disseminate its approach to education that systematically promotes the development of human potential, based on its traditions and philosophy.
