Commissioned by Oshima Town, Famione provides a service as the "Fertility Activity LINE Support Project" to support islanders with their fertility and health concerns via LINE. This course was held as part of that project for junior high school students in Oshima Town.
Following last year's positive reception, the program was expanded this year to all three schools in the town. We spoke to students facing major environmental changes, such as continuing their education or finding employment off-island, about the physical and mental changes of puberty, the importance of self-care, and the concept of personal boundaries.
■Delivering a protective charm to students facing environmental changes to help them safeguard themselves and others
In Oshima Town, many students go on to higher education or find employment off-island after graduating from junior high school, and not a few of them feel anxious about life in a new environment. The anxiety of parents is immeasurable, as their children will be exposed to different values and need to build new relationships. In response to these island-specific challenges, this seminar provides comprehensive sex education to help students acquire the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and grow up healthy.

■Group discussion to learn about boundaries
During the seminar, group discussions were held on two familiar topics to deepen understanding of the boundaries between oneself and others: "What if you were about to post an edited photo of a friend on social media?" and "What if someone you're not sure you like confesses their feelings to you?".
In the survey, students shared their new-found understanding, with comments like, "I was relieved to know that it's okay to say no to things I don't like," and "I realized I should think carefully about the other person before I act."
■Seminar Overview
【Theme】 "What is 'Like'? Is it Okay to Say 'No'? A Guide to the 'Fuzzy Feelings' of Mind and Body"
【Instructor】 Sayaka Toda (Famione Inc.), Certified Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist

・The Changing Body During Puberty
・The Changing Mind During Puberty
■Voices of Participating Students
In a post-class survey, when asked, "Do you now correctly understand that there is mental and physical growth, and that you and others are precious beings who should be respected?" 83% of students responded that they understood well (50.3% understood very well, 33.1% understood well). In addition, survey comments such as "It was easy to understand" and "I'm glad I learned important things" were accompanied by insights showing a deeper engagement with and understanding of sexuality beyond just acquiring knowledge, such as "I learned that my words can hurt people" and "All opinions should be respected."

▼Comments from the survey (excerpts)
・It was a time for me to think again about what kind of person I am and what I should do.
・I realized once again that "sexuality" is very important.
・I decided to protect my own body.
・Taking this class as an opportunity, I want to continue to acknowledge differences and love people.
■Comment from Oshima Town Dai-ichi Junior High School
This sex education course was a valuable opportunity for students to learn carefully about the "physical changes" and "how to interact with people" that they may face in their future lives.
In particular, it was impressive to see the students put their thoughts into words and discuss them while respecting each other's opinions through familiar themes in group discussions, such as "consideration when posting photos on social media" and "how to deal with your feelings when you are not sure." I feel that the accumulation of such dialogue will lead to the ability to understand boundaries and build secure relationships.
As a school, we will continue to support our students so that they can grow up healthily while taking care of their own hearts and bodies in the various situations they will encounter in the future. Thank you for this valuable course.
■Comment from Oshima Town Dai-ni Junior High School
In this sex education class, the expert teacher carefully explained topics that are difficult to delve into in regular health classes, which led to deep learning for the students. The talk, not only about the physical changes in boys and girls but also from a wide range of perspectives such as sexual harm and social media, was a very meaningful time for the students' future social lives. It was not just about transmitting knowledge; by incorporating group discussions, an environment was created where students could think and debate proactively, making it a fulfilling learning experience.
■Comment from Oshima Town Dai-san Junior High School
This was a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of sex education, a topic that requires careful handling in daily classes, as it was carefully lectured from an expert's point of view. It was impressive to see through the group discussions that the students tried to face topics that are usually difficult to talk about in their own words. I feel that it is very significant to have had such a learning opportunity before the completion of compulsory education.
■Comment from the Oshima Town Welfare and Health Division (Public Health Nurse)
People tend to be defensive when it comes to sex education, but since the themes were realistic situations like "posting an edited photo of a friend on social media" or "being confessed to by someone you're not sure you like," I think it was easy for the students to express their opinions. We were able to have a lively discussion, and it was a good opportunity for everyone to think together. In Oshima Town, some students leave their parents after junior high school to attend high school off-island, so I hope they will use what they learned in this course as a charm for their future lives. The sex education course conducted by a certified psychologist was also very educational for us in terms of understanding the emotional changes of adolescence.

■Overview of the "Famione" Employee Benefit Service
Support through a two-pronged approach: fostering an organizational culture and providing individual support to those concerned.
The "Famione" employee benefit service supports companies in promoting health management, work-life balance, and women's advancement from both sides: "improving employee literacy and fostering a corporate culture through expert-led seminars/training" and "providing individual support to employees through online health consultations."
Employees of companies that have introduced "Famione" can consult with qualified external professionals such as nurses, psychologists, and career consultants on a variety of topics online, anytime and anywhere, without regard to time or place. By providing an environment where they can consult anonymously and without the company's knowledge, we can expect to increase psychological safety and employee satisfaction. Furthermore, by consulting about their concerns at an early stage and becoming aware of their own physical and mental condition, we can expect to encourage behavioral changes and prevent illness before it occurs.
In addition, we offer seminars and training by professional instructors to all employees to raise the literacy of the entire company. Especially concerning health issues specific to women, about 70% of female employees desire understanding from their superiors and colleagues*1. By providing correct knowledge to non-parties such as managers and supporting employees and promoting understanding, we contribute to expanding the scope of support. The themes of seminars and training can be customized*2 according to the needs and challenges of each company.
We began offering our corporate welfare program in September 2018. In addition to implementing our welfare benefits for companies like Odakyu Electric Railway and the TBS Health Insurance Society, we have also provided seminars to Sony, All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. (ANA), and the Itochu Labor Union. We also provide our services to local governments, ranging from prefectural units to core cities and municipalities with tens of thousands of residents, including Yokosuka City in Kanagawa Prefecture, Nagasaki Prefecture, Suginami and Setagaya Wards in Tokyo, Mihara City in Hiroshima Prefecture, and Ora Town in Gunma Prefecture.
