FamilyMart Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and Representative Director: Tateo Kotani) will celebrate its 45th anniversary in September 2026. Based on the 5 keywords we have continuously worked on, we will carry out activities under the slogan 'Number One Challenge'. This time, as the 'most eco-friendly' initiative, jointly with Bookoff Corporation Ltd. (Headquarters: Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, President and Representative Director: Yasutaka Horiuchi), we will start a demonstration experiment to install a clothing and miscellaneous goods collection box 'R-LOOP' inside the store, changing the experience from 'throwing away' to 'passing on to the next', from Monday, April 13, 2026.

This experiment will be conducted at about 30 stores mainly in Setagaya and Suginami wards, Tokyo, which are close to residential areas. After verifying the convenience of 'easy reuse', customer needs, and the degree of contribution to the environment, we will consider future nationwide expansion.

Social Background and Significance: Proposing a 'No-Waste Lifestyle' Aiming to Reduce Waste

Currently in Japan, about 560,000 tons of clothing are incinerated or landfilled annually, and recycling them has become a major social issue (*). On the other hand, it is considered that there is an aspect where the time and effort to incorporate reuse and recycling into daily life becomes a major hurdle, even while feeling 'it's a waste to throw away things that can still be used'. *Ministry of the Environment 'Summary Version of the Report on Investigation Work on Promotional Measures for Circular Fashion in Reiwa 6' (July 2025) https://www.env.go.jp/policy/sustainable_fashion/goodpractice/materialflow_reiwa6.pdf

FamilyMart has so far promoted activities to contribute to the local community by utilizing its network of more than 16,400 stores nationwide. As part of this, the 'Famima Food Drive' is an initiative to collect surplus food from homes and deliver it to those who need support in the region, and is currently being deployed at about 4,900 stores (as of the end of March 2026). In this demonstration experiment, this network will be expanded to the fields of clothing and miscellaneous goods. By collaborating with the Bookoff Group, which has specialized infrastructure for reuse and recycling, and making convenience stores function as 'new counters for resource circulation', we will promote environmental contribution in a more familiar form. By expanding the stores for this initiative, we aim to reduce clothing waste by about 4,000 tons annually in the future.

Through this initiative, we hope to realize a society where consumers can effortlessly participate in the 'circular economy' in their daily lives. We will verify the potential of how the simple experience of 'just dropping in' unnecessary items while shopping will take root in customers' lifestyles.

3 Major Points of This Demonstration Experiment

1) Just put it in the collection box. A reuse experience completed in 10 seconds Simply put clothes and miscellaneous goods into the dedicated box installed in the store. There are no physical or psychological hurdles such as packing, shipping, or waiting for face-to-face appraisals. It's a mechanism that allows you to participate in reuse and recycling while shopping, even in your busy daily life.

2) You can see where it goes. Promising the 'aftermath' with traceability The precious items you put in the collection box will be responsibly connected to their next role. The Bookoff Group will reuse them at their overseas reuse shop 'Jalan Jalan Japan', and partner companies will recycle clothing that does not meet the criteria. In addition, by attaching an identification sticker to all collection bags when collecting from the installation site and managing the collection amount and reuse/recycling results in a database, traceability is ensured.

3) 'Not throwing away' becomes a 'donation'. Social contribution of 1 yen per 1kg Depending on the amount of collected unneeded items reused (1 yen per 1kg), donations will be made to arbitrary organizations such as NPOs working on environmental protection and solving social issues. Simply by using the box, customers can connect their feelings of 'what a waste' to direct social contribution.

The Flow of Reuse and Recycling that 'Let Go Items' Follow

The items customers put in the box are reborn into new value through the following process. 1) [Reuse] Across the sea, to smiles in Malaysia and Kazakhstan Usable clothing and miscellaneous goods are reused at the Bookoff Group's overseas reuse shop 'Jalan Jalan Japan'.
